Massive Sinkhole On Overbrook Street

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A massive sinkhole is causing major disruptions after opening up on a West Philadelphia street Friday afternoon.

63rd Street near City Avenue in Overbrook is closed indefinitely as crews work to replace the sinkhole.

The sinkhole, which is approximately 25x25 feet, opened up around 3 p.m. Friday.

Officials were forced to close 63rd Street between Route 30 (Lancaster Avenue) and City Avenue.

The Philadelphia City Streets Department will be repairing the sinkhole. After the sinkhole is repaired, a PennDOT contractor will prepare the roadway for resurfacing, which could take several days.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the area.
