Congressman Murphy, Fitzpatrick, Debate In Bucks County

FAIRLESS HILSS (CBS) -- The Lower Bucks County Chamber of Commerce hosted a debate between Congressman Patrick Murphy and Mike Fitzpatrick Thursday morning at the Bucks County Technical High School.

From adoption to deficit reduction, both men agreed on little.

One of their more spirited exchanges centered on extending the Free Trade agreement to Central America, which Fitzpatrick voted when he was in Congress.

"Probably, at that moment in July of 2005, the most important national security issue that I was thinking about," said Fitzpatrick.

He later limited that to the Western Hemispher after Murphy offered this counter.

"When you're on congress when we were losing men and women in Iraq and Afghanistan, you are so out of touch you don't still get it," said Murphy.

Both men heralded their political independence while insisting the other voted with his party the vast majority of the time.
