Phila. Teacher Suspected Of Theft

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A Philadelphia elementary school teacher has been charged with stealing dozens of computers from her school.

Authorities say 35-year-old Kathleen Kremis, a fifth-grade teacher at the Ethan Allen school in Northeast Philadelphia, swiped 42 laptops and tried to sell them at a local pawn shop.

Kremis and her former husband, 37-year-old Thomas Perry, were arrested at her home in Port Richmond and charged with theft.

Philadelphia School District spokesman Fernando Gallard says the arrests came after a joint police and school district investigation:

"The school did become aware of several of the laptops going missing. There was one incident where a full cart of laptops went missing."

Gallard says the pawnbroker tipped off police when the laptops had "Property of the School District" anti-theft labels on them.

He says Kremis has been suspended without pay, pending the criminal procedings.
