Police: Del. Burglar Tried To Undress Sleeping Woman

NEWARK, Del. (CBS) -- A Delaware man was arrested after he allegedly broke into a woman's apartment and tried to undress her while she slept.

By the time word spread of the attack, the Morgan Crossing Apartments in Newark were quiet again.

But news of an attempted burglary in what neighbors call a normally peaceful neighborhood still sparked fear.

"I'm really surprised," said Phyllis Henry. "I'm scared now."

Police say Sunil Meka, 33, who lives in the Morgan Crossing Apartments, broke into a woman's home around 4 a.m. Friday morning. As she slept on the couch, police said Meka tried to take her clothes off.

"She sat up, she screamed, and he fled," said Senior Cpl. Trinidad Navarro, a spokesman for the New Castle County Police Department.

Police arrested Meka walking around the apartment complex a short time later. It's impossible to know what Meka had in mind.

"We don't know if he wanted to sexually assault her, said Navarro. "We don't know his intentions."

Although the attack could've been far worse, neighbors said it was bad enough to scare them into being more careful at night.

As of now, police said this is an isolated incident. But they said there may be more victims out there who should contact the New Castle County Police Department.

Meka faces charges of attempted burglary and offensive touching.
