Philadelphia Artists Opens Studios To The Public

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Artists located in 19 different neighborhoods in Philadelphia will open their studios to the public this weekend and next in the annual Philadelphia open studio tours.

Tremain Smith's studio is in a row house on South 59th Street in West Philadelphia. She's been there at least 20 years, creating large abstracts using an ancient technique that involves color, cloth, paper and beeswax. She loves opening her studio to the public.

"They're grateful that artists are opening their studios because they're interested, you know, so it actually bolsters an artist, yeah."

Ann Koivunen is the tour's director:

"A lot of folks don't understand necessarily, who aren't involved in an artist's work on a daily basis, what happens in an artist's studio. So there's a great level of education behind this event.
