Free Admission To Philadelphia Museums For College Students

PHILADELPHIA (KYW 1060) -- Campus Philly and the Art Museum paired up for "College Day on the Parkway" on Saturday to show area college students the best the city has to offer.

KYW's Mike Dougherty reports that admission was free to seven of the city's greatest cultural gems including the Franklin Institute, the Art Museum, Eastern State Penitentiary, and The Academy of Natural Sciences.

But Brittany Sturges with Campus Philly says it's more than just museums participating:

"There are about 100 different retail locations throughout the city that are offering discounts."

Discounts of 10 percent off at some places, others are giving away freebies like a side of french fries. That's because, as Sturges says, some students stick to chains and places they're familiar with when going out to eat or shopping:

"For the discounts they actually need the Campus Philly discount card."

Buses shuttled students between the seven museums free of charge.

A college ID is required in addition to the Campus Philly discount card. For more information and a full list of participants, visit www.CampusPhilly.org.
