Man Pleads Guilty to Defrauding Women He Met Online

=========================

PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3 / KYW 1060) A 26-year-old Indian national has pleaded guilty to fraud and this crime was personal.

KYW's Tony Hanson reports that the defendant met his female victims online.

Defendant Jaitass Dhanoa stole the victims hearts and then their money, through identity theft and credit card fraud. Dhanoa even talked marriage and, although there were clues along the way, Dhanoa was convincing.

One of the victims asked not to be identified by name:

"He was a smooth operator. He didn't really leave behind enough footprints for us to really figure it out at first. The only advice I would have is to go with your gut. If you think something is wrong then look into it. There is nothinig wrong with asking questions.

(Hanson) Was there ever a point where you, looking back at it, maybe didn't follow your gut?

(victim) "Yes, there were a few points, yes."

But, the victims say, they were raised to trust others and this has been a difficult lesson. They now suspect others and question their own ability to judge character.

Dhanoa, in custody, will be sentenced in January.
