KYW's Local Legends: Harry Dietzler
Harry Dietzler founded the Upper Darby Performing Arts Center 35 years ago, when he was a theatre and music major looking for a venue in which to perform. But now, he says, it's something completely different:
"We involve close to 700 young people from the ages of 11 to 25. So it gives them something great to do, goals to work on. They develop great friendships, they learn confidence, and working on a team."
The Upper Darby theatre program has a number of famous alums, including Tina Frey, who spent a few summers on stage in the program.
Dietzler says the success of the program lends itself to the community in which it's located:
"The community supports it and it's a great source of pride to those who live here."
