Bensalem OKs 40-Percent Expansion at Parx Casino

The Bensalem town council has given the "thumbs up" to Parx Casino for a major expansion project that will add more table games to the casino floor.

KYW's Brad Segall reports
that the expansion of nearly 90,000 square feet will add nearly 40 percent more space to the casino and most of that will be used for gaming, lounges, and restaurants.

Parx has more than 3,500 slot machines and table games were added last month (see related story).

Bensalem mayor Joe DiGirolamo says the expansion should be good for business:

"They only have 57 tables there, and if you look around, some of the other casinos already have over a hundred, some of them.  So they need the room."

Casino officials hope to add tables for poker, larger baccarat tables, and some Asian games as early as this fall.

The planned addition will be located in the back of the casino building, and Parx has agreed to make some transportation improvements in the area.

Casino officials also revealed that they plan to ask the state for permission to put table games in the grandstand at the adjoining Philadelphia Park horse-racing track.
