Poll Gives Slight Edge to Adler Over Runyan
With more than two months before voters go to the polls, a new poll show the incumbent ahead in New Jersey's hottest congressional race.
KYW's David Madden reports that freshman Democrat John Adler holds a seven-point advantage over Republican opponent Jon Runyan and a 10-point lead among likely voters, according to the latest Rutgers-Eagleton Poll of voters in the heavily Republican Third District, which spans from Cherry Hill to the Central Jersey shore.
Poll Director David Redlawsk says the survey's not all bad news for Runyan:
"When we look only at the people who say they're following news. In fact, Runyan's up by one point."
And he leads with men by six, perhaps due to Runyan's days on the Philadelphia Eagles. Adler's advantage, in the polls and fundraising, isn't enough to get confident, though. Redlawsk suggests he solidify his Democratic base and work on the independent vote, where 31-percent are still undecided.
