Expanded Convention Center Gets a Showplace Façade

The expansion of the Pennsylvania Convention Center is on target for opening in early 2011, and much of the work right now involves a new front door -- literally a glass wall along North Broad Street.

KYW's Mike Dunn reports that the expansion of the Convention Center, from 13th Street west to Broad Street, is nearly 90 percent complete, and the construction right now is focused on Broad Street, where the western entrance will be a breathtaking glass wall.

Joe Resta is project director:

"We essentially have a very large glass curtain wall -- it's over 100 feet high, in a curved fashion, almost 400 feet long."

Building a glass wall presents tough challenges, but Resta says it'll be worth it:

"The aesthetics of that Broad Street façade will make a grand statement and truly be a new front door."

That door is scheduled to  open in March of next year.
