Coping with Stress on the Job and at Home

by KYW's medical editor Dr. Brian McDonough

There is no doubt that combining the pressures of a job and parenthood can be daunting and with more couples facing financial pressures the stress levels are growing. It is important to try and cope with the tension. There are some things you can do.

For instance, sneak in a few minutes of quiet relaxation at work. Get up from your desk and take a quick walk. Stretch when you can. Make a concerted effort to try and leave work at the workplace. Try to arrive home happy, energetic and feeling refreshed.

When you get home, take some of the burden off of yourself. Share some responsibilities among all family members, such as having everyone pitch in to clean up the house.

Most important, be realistic! Accept that you can't always accomplish everything at once. Set priorities for what's most important.
