Al Taubenberger to Seek Seat on Phila. City Council
The Republican, who ran unsuccessfully against Michael Nutter for mayor three years ago, says he's ready to run again though, this time, for City Council.
KYW Mike Dunn reports the GOP's Al Taubenberger won praise but few votes as he ran against Michael Nutter in the 2007 general election for mayor. He went back to his day job as head of the Northeast Chamber of Commerce, but now Taubenberg is itching to get back to politics and he has set his eyes on one of the two at-large seats on City Council that the city charter reserves for Republicans:
"I know the city well, I know the issues citywide, and I have a lot of friends citywide. So I would very much look forward to the race. I think it would be an interesting one."
Problem is, the man holding that seat, Councilman Jack Kelly says hasn't made up his mind whether to run for e-election. Taubenberger -- who used to work for Kelly -- says he will step aside if Kelly seeks indeed another term.
