Jury Hears More Details of Liczbinski Murder Arrest

As the trial for two men accused in the murder of Philadelphia police sergeant Stephen Liczbinski nears its third week of testimony, prosecutors have linked the second defendant to the 2008 murder of Liczbinski and the bank robbery that led to it.

KYW's Steve Tawa reports that SWAT unit officer Bill Stephan has testified how they arrested co-defendant Eric Floyd, without incident, three days after Liczbinski was shot to death.

Stephan says they cuffed Floyd with Liczbinski's own handcuffs -- a police department tradition when a suspect in the murder of an officer is arrested -- and brought a 24th District wagon from Liczbinski's district to transport him to Homicide, another tradition.

Detective Thorsten Lucke quotes Floyd in an alleged confession as saying that after the bank job, when Sgt. Liczbinski pulled up behind them, he didn't know that Howard Cain was going to get out and shoot the officer.

Floyd told detectives he was sorry it happened and that he is not a monster.

Floyd has been viewing the trial over closed-circuit TV from a holding cell, because he slugged his defense lawyer during the jury selection process (see related story).
