Wills Eye Hospital Holding Its Reputation Among Peers

A Philadelphia hospital is once again receiving national recognition for being among the best in its field.

KYW's Suzanne Monaghan reports that Wills Eye Institute, at 9th and Walnut Streets in center city, has been ranked one of the nation's top three centers for ophthalmology by US News and World Report.

But this isn't a new distinction.  It's the twenty-first consecutive year the hospital has received this recognition.

Dr. Julia Haller is ophthalmologist-in-chief at Wills Eye.  She explains that the ranking is based on the hospital's reputation among peers:

"They ask ophthalmologists throughout the country, 'What is the hospital that you respect the most, that you would send your own family member to?'  And, well, we think it's well deserved."

Wills Eye is the first eye-only hospital in the country and has been providing eye care for more than 175 years.
