Late Renoir on Exhibit at Philadelphia Museum of Art

by KYW's Karin Phillips

Through September 6th, the Philadelphia Museum of Art is featuring Late Renoir: 79 paintings, sculpture and drawings by Impressionist giant Auguste Renoir, all from the last 30 years of his life. It is the first such exhibition.

Curator Jennifer Thompson:

"We really see a much more classical work coming out. He paints a lot of mythological subjects. He loves to paint the female nude in the landscape."

Thompson says those who think they know Renoir will see a softer, humbler side of the great artist:

"He's said to have painted a still life of flowers on the day he died and to have handed his palette back to one of his nurses and said I'm beginning to know something about painting."
