Jury Almost Set for Sgt. Liczbinski Murder Trial

KYW's Tony Hanson

The slow, but at times eventful, jury selection process continues in the trial of two men charged with the murder of Philadelphia police sergeant Stephen Liczbinski in May of 2008.

Ten jurors have been selected in two and a half weeks, and opening statements are expected next week.

Lots of factors have contributed to the slow progress, including the length of the trial, expected to be about 4 to 6 weeks during the summer, it's a potential capital case, scheduling issues and outbursts by defendant Eric Floyd (upper right), who has spoken out of turn and at one point, according to witnesses, punched his attorney in the head.

Floyd is no longer in the courtroom. He's watching over a television hookup from an adjoining cell.

The prosecution is seeking the death penalty for Floyd and co-defendant Levon Warner (lower right), although it concedes neither was the actual triggerman in the murder.

Authorities say triggerman Howard Cain was later shot and killed in a confrontation with other officers. Warner and Floyd have pleaded not guilty.
