Philadelphia Orchestra Begins the Passing of the Baton

The Philadelphia Orchestra has finalized plans for its future, by naming its incoming music director. It's a seven-year deal for Yannick Nézet-Séguin with two years' transition, starting now as Music Director Designate, and Charles Dutoit continuing as Chief Conductor.  Orchestra president Allison Vulgamore says Nézet-Séguin essentially auditioned for the job, baton in hand:

"He made an incredible impression with the orchestra and they with him from the very first time he conducted."

Nézet-Séguin is 35, among the younger people getting the Philly maestro gig, and if you can't wait for his next performance:

"We would love those who would like to meet him to come at noon to the Kimmel Center this Friday for greeting our new friend in town."

Vulgamore says she expects Nézet-Séguin to expand the orchestra's repertoire and performance sites.
