Where To Donate In The Fight Against Ebola

The current Ebola outbreak in West Africa is the largest in history, affecting numerous countries and thousands of people and resulting in at least 4,000 deaths so far. Unfortunately, health care professionals and volunteers helping in the affected area are facing shortages of necessary supplies, including gloves, facemasks and goggles. So, how can you help? Here are some reputable organizations accepting donations for things like food, medical supplies, protective gear, educational materials and more.

Doctors Without Borders/Medecins Sans Frontieres – Founded in 1971, the organization has been responding to the crisis since March 2014 and has more than 3,000 people in the affected area.

Samaritan's Purse – Samaritan's Purse is an evangelical Christian organization that is working in Liberia to set up and manage Community Care Centers.

Direct Relief – So far, this nonprofit has made more than 12 shipments of critical medical supplies to hospitals and clinics in Sierra Leone and Liberia.

GlobalGiving Ebola Relief Fund – Funds raised will go towards caring for the infected, protective gear for health care personnel and educational campaigns in the region.

MAP International – This charity is a Christian organization dedicated to global health and providing medical supplies to areas in need.

Last Mile Health – Funds raised by this organization will go towards training and equipping Liberian health workers on the ground.

EMERGENCY USA – In addition to accepting donations for protective gear for health workers, the organization also has a 90-bed hospital in Sierra Leone.

The American Red Cross – Specialists deployed by the Red Cross are in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea working to stop the spread of the Ebola virus.

International Medical Corps – This organization just opened the doors on its new Ebola Treatment Unit earlier this month, and it's also begun building another facility in Sierra Leone.

Project C.U.R.E. – This organization delivers medical supplies to developing countries. In addition to financial support, they are also seeking in-kind donations of medical equipment for shipment to West Africa.

UNICEF – The well-known nonprofit helps children in need, and in Ebola-affected countries, an estimated 3,700 children are now orphans. Help get supplies including soap and gloves to people in the region.

Americares – Personal protective equipment, bleach and medicines are just a few of the things Americares is shipping to West Africa.

The CDC Foundation – The CDC has more than 100 people in the area and 700 more working remotely on the outbreak. Funds donated will be used to supply meals, protective gear, generators and more.

Save the Children - Donations are being requested to help stop the spread of Ebola and to help children orphaned by the virus. An anonymous donor is matching individual donations, dollar for dollar, up to $250,000.
