Top Valentine's Day Dates For Parents In Philadelphia

Valentine's Day is on a Friday this year, but while couples with kids may not have to worry about finding a date, they do have to worry about finding a dateless sitter on a weekend! Here are five dates ideas parents can attempt, with ways to switch it up if Friday night ends up not being the best time to celebrate the holiday.

Blue Cross RiverRink At Penn's Landing
101 N. Columbus Blvd.

Some couples find outdoor activities and exercise romantic. For those couples, there's skating together at the RiverRink, an Olympic-sized outdoor rink. The rink is also open late on Fridays, making it a great late-night date for parents who may want to accommodate sitters or grandparents who want their own Valentine's day celebration. If the weather's cold, there is a heated pavilion with a snack bar here, too.

Cake And The Beanstalk
1112 Locust St.
Philadelphia, PA 19107

Going out for a late-night dessert allows parents to have dinner with their children but still enjoy some time alone. Plus, whoever is watching the kids can have a kid-free meal. Cake and the Beanstalk, although it may seem like a place for kids, is actually open until 10 p.m. The bakery serves a variety of desserts, coffees and espressos (hence the "beanstalk" part of the name). And, if the kids must come along, there's a kids' table, books, drawing supplies and building blocks to keep them entertained while parents savor something sweet.

Since Valentine's Day is at the start of a long weekend for President's Day, some parents may be fortunate enough to take a vacation instead of just spending one night away. Cove Haven and its sister resorts Paradise Stream and Pocono Palace are known for their romantic flair and couples-only requirement. Besides suites that include Champagne-Glass Whirlpools and private pools, the resorts provide plenty of activities and entertainment. Parents who cannot part with their kids for an entire weekend vacation can check out more family-friendly options on the Pocono Mountains Visitors Bureau website.

Being a parent can be stressful. Fortunately, Jolie has not one, not two, but three spa packages couples can take advantage of, depending on their availability. All three include a massage and a facial for two. The Two to Tango is the quickest getaway, with a glass of wine and spa lunch added. The Romance Retreat package includes 3.5 hours of spa services, plus a three-course meal at Normandy Farm's Farmer's Daughter Restaurant. The Romance Retreat Deluxe includes everything in the Romance Retreat package, plus an overnight stay at the Normandy Farm Hotel for those who really want to make V-Day special.

Some parents give up specialized tastes for meals accompanied by fries once kids are in the picture. Say hello again to sushi at Zama, a trendy sushi restaurant in Rittenhouse Square. While Zama is great for dinner, it is also open for lunch, making it a good option for parents who work in the city and may not be able to get away from the kids at night. Zama takes reservations, another plus when it comes to Valentine's Day traffic.
