What is referred to as “doing good” does make you feel good inside, especially if what you are doing is a healthy thing like participating in a 5K or other physical activity. This summer, the city of Philadelphia will have several charity events that you can participate in to do your part while having some fun and spending time with loved ones or even to make new friends. You can have your choice between physical activities or fun events. Here are five of the top charity events this summer.

Lisa’s Army Pool Party
Summit Park
8201 Henry Ave.
Philadelphia, PA 19128

Date: June 21, 2014

Lisa’s Army raises money for those battling ovarian cancer. The group was started in honor of Lisa Loonstyn-Golden who battled ovarian cancer, won the battle initially, but then sadly, passed away. This pool party raises money through ticket sales for entrance as well as additional donations through tickets that will include a t-shirt. Enjoy the summer day with some friends, swim, eat and do something good all at the same time.

Race & Seek will allow you to have fun, be active and raise money. The race takes two to three hours to run (or you can walk if you prefer). Think “The Amazing Race,” but on a much smaller scale. The race also takes $10 donations per group for Alex’s Lemonade Stand for children who have cancer and gives those donating a five-minute head start.

This event occurs on the second Thursday of every month from now through October, if other dates work better for you or you want to participate more than once. Adventure Run raises money for Athletes Helping Athletes, which empowers children with disabilities by providing handcycles so they too can ride bikes with family and friends.
