Top Things To Do In Philadelphia Today, Apr. 9
Looking for something to do today? Here are our top three picks…there's something for everyone in the Philadelphia area!
Unicorn Day
Ramona Susan's Bakeshop
www.ramonasusansbakeshop.com
Prices vary (cakes require at least 24 hours notice for delivery)
There's a holiday for everything – including, apparently, unicorns. Celebrate the whimsical mythological creature with an equally whimsical (but decidedly REAL!) Rainbow Unicorn Cake from this online bakery. The cakes are being sold in two different sizes and consist of rainbow cake slathered in strawberry buttercream icing that's then sprinkled with glitter and topped with a candy unicorn. Oh, and there are also cupcake versions of the larger Unicorn Cakes. Quite frankly, if these aren't the confections of your childhood dreams I don't know what to tell you.
Caribbean Cuisine Week
Participating restaurants
Philadelphia, Pa.
www.caribbeancuisineweek.com
$33 or less
If you can't treat yourself to a vacation, at least you can treat your taste buds to one. Caribbean Cuisine Week is happening throughout Philly right now, and more than a dozen local restaurants are offering deals on scrumptious tastes of the islands. Even better? Funds raised will go towards bringing athletes from Caribbean countries like Trinidad and Jamaica to Philadelphia for the upcoming Penn Relays.
"The Wind Rises"
University of Pennsylvania
Claudia Cohen Hall, Room 402
3620 Walnut Street
Philadelphia, Pa.
www.subarucherryblossom.org
6:30 – 8:30 p.m., FREE
The Subaru Cherry Blossom Fest continues with a screening of this Japanese film from director Hayao Miyazaki. It's Miyazaki's final work, and it's loosely focused on the life of Jiro Horikoshi, who dreams of being a pilot despite his poor eyesight.
