The diner car of the Silk City Diner, Lounge & Beer Garden was built in Paterson, N.J. by the Paterson Dining Company in 1952. During that era, the silk industry was going strong, hence the moniker Silk City. In 1954, the diner car was placed adjacent to a cocktail lounge in Philadelphia. After the original owners closed the operation, the business was purchased, re-purposed and re-opened in 2007. Mark Bee, the owner, also added a 3,000-square-foot beer garden that opens for the warmer months in the spring. Dinner features New American cuisine and is served seven nights per week. The lounge features musical groups such as BioDiesel, Shores and Alta Mira, to name a few. Sunday nights are great at Silk City because there are musical acts - mostly DJs - for your listening enjoyment.
