Top Jungle Gyms In Philadelphia

Some may think it's hard to find a fun and safe playground with a functioning jungle gym or play house in center city but that could be farther from the truth. You can find a well-equipped playground in most of the neighborhoods in Philadelphia. We've found the top five that should be visited while the kids are still young. Being maintained by the parks service of the local community, they are all built with safety in mind as well as some love and fun.

Franklin Square

Franklin Square has been a favorite playground for all kids young and old since being refurbished in 2006. It is a part of the five original squares created by William Penn. Along with a Philly Mini Golf course and a beautiful fountain, it is home to a wonderful playground that features a jungle gym, and swing set. The park is open year-round and hosts a variety of seasonal events. Don't miss the beautiful merry-go-round that can also be found at Franklin Square. Take a break and grab a bite at Square Burger, right in the heart of Franklin Square.

Penn Treaty Park

Penn Treaty park is home to seven acres of green space with a beautiful view of Benjamin Franklin Bridge and the Delaware River. Underneath a shaded area of the park lies an adventurous playground with a jungle gym for kids to play. enjoy an assortment of swings, balance beams and picnic area on your visit to Penn Treaty Park. There is an ample amount of parking in the parking lot and along Beach Street.

Smith Playground was built in honor of the son of Richard and Sarah Smith, Stanfield. The 16,000 square foot playhouse was built by 19th-century architect, James H. Windrim. Smith Playground is 6 1/2 acres of open fields, wooded terrain, and picturesque hills. Kids can enjoy the century old Ann Newman Giant Wooden Slide as well. The East Fairmount Park has been a favorite destination for kids for over 100 years.

Liberty Lands is a community run park that is accessible to everyone. The park includes a community garden, a Native American herb garden, a children's playground, sculpture by neighboring artists and more. For people who would like to visit and see the amazing attributes of the park they can get there by a rail line or bus. What a beautiful way this community has given back to their neighborhood. The contributions go beyond a standard playground.

Three Bears Park

Three Bears Park can be found on Delancey Street between Third and Fourth Streets in Philadelphia. The park has been completely renovated and rehabbed by The Friends of Delancey Park. The community installed a new and larger jungle gym/playground set, new soft surface, new benches, and tables, and replaced a nonfunctional fountain with a tree and flower garden. It's the perfect place to bring the kids while visiting center city Philadelphia.
