Top College Bars In Philadelphia

Schools like the University of Pennsylvania, Temple University, Drexel University and St. Joseph's University, just to name a few, make Philadelphia a great college town and fun city to live in while focusing on your studies. Blarney Stone in West Philadelphia is frequented by both Drexel and University of Pennsylvania students alike. As a no-frills college bar, it offers cheap drinks, especially on Thursday during college night when certain drinks are only .50 cents, and a guaranteed good time. Blarney Stone is popular for its Tuesday night Quizzo as well as its Saturday night karaoke.

City Tap House is in University City (and also now near Logan Square) and is frequented by both Drexel and Penn students. It is a popular place to head to if you love craft beer, as this place has 60 drafts on tap. It has a 120-seat dining room where you can enjoy upscale bar food such as grilled ribeye, burgers and mussels, a large bar with multiple TVs spread out around it and an outdoor terrace overlooking Walnut Street complete with tables and fire pits to keep you warm on a chilly night.

Landmark Americana's City Ave location is near St. Joseph University and, since there are few bars around the university, is a favorite hang out among students. Patrons can't beat the specials here which include buy one, get one burger on Sunday evenings, $11 all you can eat wings on Saturday (and .50 cent wings on Tuesday) and $3 beers and other discounted drinks throughout the week. As a bonus, kids eat free on Wednesday with a purchase of an adult meal. Come in for trivia on Tuesday and enjoy a live DJ set every Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Masters Bar & Restaurant is located on Temple University's campus. The first floor has multiple TVs, bar and spacious seating, including an outdoor patio. "The Study" is upstairs and, during the day, bring your books with you while you enjoy bites like burgers, tacos and mac n' cheese. The second floor turns into a lounge with dancing and cocktails at night. Great specials run throughout the week including a free beer with burger purchase on Monday, free pizza after 10 p.m. on Sunday and $2 taco Tuesdays.

William Street Common is an indoor beer garden (although it recently added an outdoor patio) in University City at 39th and Chestnut Streets. A no tip bar and restaurant, it serves comfort food such as tacos, soft pretzels and burgers, along with specialty and beer cocktails served in mason jars. Come in during the weekend, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., for its three-drink brunch where, for $28.50, you can enjoy its famous bottomless house made donuts, three drinks (like a mimosa or bloody mary) and one brunch entree such as eggs benedict or lemon pancakes.
