Biking is a great means of exercise and transport when the weather is nice. And it is a great way to take in the sights of the city without having to worry about paying for parking, plus it is faster than walking so you can literally get more ground covered. If you are looking for bike rentals, here are some of the places you can find them in the city of Philadelphia and the countryside.

Breakaway Bike is centrally located in Rittenhouse Square. Here, you can rent Mountain bikes, road bikes, city bikes and rentals are available hourly, daily or weekly. Helmets are provided. The easy pickup from this location is good for regular use or touring center city. Breakaway also does bike repair, has classes, sells bikes and makes custom bikes. Quotes take two days. Breakaway was even voted best bike shop winner by Philadelphia Magazine.

Fairmount Bicycles carries a variety of bike services and products for different needs and use. You can find mountain bikes, woman's, men's and many more for purchase. There are three types for rent, entry level type bikes, kids bikes and bikes for touring the city. Accessories, like helmets, locks, racks and bottles are sold here. You can rent entry level bikes hourly for $7, $35 daily, or $60 for 48 hours. Sports bikes, or ones used for hauling, are for rent for daily use or 48 hours. If you decide to later buy, you can get a refurbished bike here for less than a brand new one.

Wheel fun Rentals has a load of different options you can rent hourly, half-day or whole day for you and the whole family. You can find Surreys, double surreys (with or without fringe on top) tandem bikes, choppers, beach cruisers, city bikes, road bikes and bikes for kids. Hourly prices start at $6 for kids bikes and go up to $35 for the double surrey. You can rent these bikes in this area to tour the Fairmount park section, or you can stop in at their other location at the visitor's center.

If you're more interested in seeing the Philadelphia countryside, you can rent from New Hope Cyclery. Here, you also have the option to purchase a variety of bikes and accessories. For renting, you can choose from comfort or hybrid bikes, trailers and tag-a-longs. Prices are $10 an hour or $25 for half day (five hours) or $35 for full day. (Up to 24 hours). Reservations are recommended on weekends and must be picked up by 10 a.m. Fees include helmets and locks. You will need a credit card.

Human Zoom is a full service, they-do-it-all bike shop. Here, you can get tune ups, repairs, rentals and sales. You name it, you need it, and you can get it here. Hybrids can be rented for men or women for $10 an hour,  $40 for a 24-hour period, $70 weekend or $120 for the week. It's located just outside the city for those who aren't interested in city biking. People are very pleased with the service here. Prices are in the moderate range.
