Celebrating the luck of the Irish is a time-tested tradition in this city. With a large Irish Catholic population, it is no wonder Philadelphia bleeds green for one special night of the year. Even those who aren't Irish can revel in the splendor and magic of the night. With these top bars to celebrate St. Patrick's Day 2013 in Philadelphia, you may find yourself a lucky four-leaf clover, too.

Philadelphia Official St. Paddy's Bar Crawl
McFadden's
461 N. 3rd St.
Philadelphia, PA 19123

Official St. Paddy's Bar Crawl

Price: $10
Hours: March 16

Because Philadelphia loves its bar crawls, this is the mother ship of them. It's sure to be a packed and even sold-out affair, because the fun doesn't stop at just one bar but continues through seven (or eight stops, depending on where you started)! The plan is to pick up your St. Patrick Day goodies (cup, map and wristband) at registration time, then start your bar crawl. If one is too packed, move on to the next one then double back — if you can remember where you are at that point! Then there's the "Luck O' The Drunk" after party — if you can stand up for it.

This is the extended version of the Philadelphia bar crawl. Instead of just one night of drunken debauchery, why not make it a weekend extravaganza? First, you should start off with the Green Eggs & Hammered Kick Off party, then the Green Eggs & Hammered bar crawl on Saturday, March 16. Join in with your fellow revelers, but make sure you register first online or at McFadden's. Keep an eye on the drink specials as you fill your glass to make sure you don't empty your wallet before midnight.

Dropkick Murphys St. Patrick's Day Tour

Philadelphia, PA 19123
(215) 627-1332

Price: $40 (including Ticketmaster fees)
Hours: March 8 – 8:30 p.m.

Nothing sounds more Irish -- including the sweet siren of bagpipes -- than a Dropkick Murphys live concert. And because Philadelphia loves them so much, the Dropkick Murphys will have two shows back-to-back. With a catching ticket price, this show is one not to miss. Belly up to the bar and enjoy a tasty pint while being amazed that a folk band could ever sound so hardcore with violins, accordions and deep voices that jolt even the most jolly drunk sober. If you want to get in the spirit but don't want to deal with mobs of people in green garb, this is the place to go. You won't regret it.

This large Irish Pub has more than enough space to entertain large crowds of all creeds. Celebrating both the St. Patrick's Day parade and the official holiday, there is certainly a pot of gold at this Northern Liberties location.

Kildare's Irish Pub
4417 Main St.
Philadelphia, PA 19127
(215) 482-7242
www.kildaresirishpub.com

One of the last Kildare's bars left in the city, this one has enough beers, stouts and Guinness to go around. Usually, this is the place where Manayunkers will come for breakfast, beer and a shot then jump on the train to join the green team in Center City. But perhaps all you want to do is a little celebrating — not too much — and enjoy a nice, frosty pint. Then this is your place to go. It's not too crowded, not too loud (until the crazy wee hours of the morning), and it might be a nice spot to appreciate the luck o' the Irish without the throbbing hangover in the morning. But if you get caught up in the fun and end up on the train, make sure you join one of the bar crawls above.
