Since 1963, this Philadelphia dance school has offered ballet classes in a nurturing environment for all ages and levels. With two locations (one in Philadelphia and one in West Chester), this award-winning school has produced thousands of classically trained dancers for more than 50 years, with alumni currently in every major ballet company in the U.S. and Europe. Dancers can start as young as three years old, and open adult classes are also available. For more serious dancers, the audition-only Summer Ballet Intensive program requires aspiring dancers to take on a minimum of three classes per day, as well as regular rehearsals and weekend classes.

This acclaimed dance studio has a major claim to fame: It's home to the Philadelphia Youth Ballet. Young dancers can get a jump start and learn technique starting at an early age, before auditioning for the Youth Ballet at age eight. But several beginners' programs and teen recreational classes are also offered for newcomers and the less-committed. In addition, boys-only ballet classes are available, making this one of the most sought-after dance schools in the area.

A newer entry on this list, this three-studio facility has quickly become a Main Line favorite. Owner and Philadelphia Ballet alum Suzanne Slenn's philosophy encourages a strong bond between student and instructor. With an early dance division that introduces children to the world of ballet, to primary, graded and pre-professional divisions based on age and past training, a student's ability determines what level they'll work at. This ballet school's year is divided into 12-week trimesters, and enrollment is based on a full year. There's also a unique enrichment program for students with cognitive and developmental disabilities. An annual performance of The Nutcracker and an end-of-year showcase are just two of the performance opportunities for students.
