The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection says the project will cover 12.7 miles of beaches in Long Beach Township, Ship Bottom, Beach Haven and part of Surf City.
A spokesman for the NJ Department of Environmental Protection says it will take about a year and cost more than $120 million.
The fire was reported shortly before 4 p.m. in the 2100 block of Long Beach Boulevard.
