A new section of the Schuylkill River Trail — extending 50 feet out over the water — is now open for joggers, cyclists, and those seeking a riverside stroll.
Plans are in the works to turn Spring Garden Street into a greenway that is a hub of activity for drivers, cyclists and others, connecting the Art Museum area to neighborhoods around the Delaware River.
There was lots of enthusiasm as campers from the Vare Recreation Camp in West Philadelphia jumped into kayaks and “water swans” — some of them for the first time in their lives — to paddle around the Delaware River Marina.
In our area, trail development is expected to take off this summer thanks to a $23-million federal grant.
So, maybe you can’t quite picture sunshine and walking along the Delaware river considering Philadelphia’s been like a snow sandwich, but let’s look ahead. The Delaware River is starting a new program and they may be looking for you.
