Paid Sick Leave Takes Effect Even As Harrisburg Considers Overturning Philadelphia Law

Businesses with ten or more workers in Philadelphia face a new mandate from City Hall starting today: they must offer their workers earned paid sick leave.

Supporters of Philadelphia Paid-Sick-Leave Bill Press Council For Passage

The lines are clearly drawn on this controversial issue, and a coalition of groups has delivered 60,000 signatures urging Council to, as they put it, “stand with families, not corporate lobbyists.”

Council Members Feel Stung By Mayor Nutter’s Veto Of Sick-Leave Bill

Now that Mayor Michael Nutter has sent Philadelphia City Council word for the second time in less than a week that he’s vetoing recent legislation — the latest is a sick-leave bill — some Council members are accusing the mayor of hypocrisy.
