Brooks & Dunn, Reba, Miranda Lambert, George Strait and Kenny Chesney are also among the seven artists honored by the Academy of Country Music with its 50th Anniversary Milestone Award.
“‘American Kids’ was that one thing that I was looking for that was different,” Chesney said. “There’s not that many of those songs around. We’re an industry of chasers and copycats, we really are. That’s just the way it is.”
The 50th annual Academy of Country Music Awards are a month away, and the first performers have just been announced.

Kenny Chesney played a free concert on the beach for roughly 25,000 to 30,000 fans on Wednesday night.
No shoes, no shirt, no problem. Kenny Chesney fans are finding all they need on the Wildwood boardwalk while they wait in line–with an eye on the stage that’s set up on the beach for the singer’s free concert at 8:30 p.m.
As part of the fanfare surrounding the release of his new album Welcome to the Fishbowl, country superstar Kenny Chesney is performing a free show tonight smack dab on the beach in Wildwood, New Jersey.
The concert is happening on the beach at Schellenger Avenue at 8:30 p.m. Gates open at 7 p.m., and the event is rain or shine.
Chesney was reportedly looking to perform on a boardwalk and had considered Seaside Heights, but he decided on Wildwood after visiting the beach there.
