Tussling Over Love Park Plan as City Council OKs Sale of Underground Garage

Council president Darell Clarke is voicing opposition to a councilman’s plan that would let skateboarders back in an area of the park once the makeover is finished.

Nutter, Clarke Compromise on Funding For Love Park Renovation

The mayor had proposed selling the garage beneath Love Park and then using city money to renovate the park itself. Council president Clarke proposed turning much of the park over to new restaurants, with money from those leases paying for the renovation.

Nutter: Bill To Sell Parking Garage Under Love Park Not Moving Fast Enough

Mayor Nutter on Thursday transmitted to City Council a bill to sell the underground garage to a Chicago firm called InterPark for nearly $30 million. But the measure was never formally introduced, and Nutter’s spokesman Mark McDonald says that pushed the deal to next year.
