House Liquor Control Committee
The state House Liquor Control Committee advanced a liquor privatization bill Monday, setting up a likely vote by the full House later this week.
The chairman of the state House Liquor Control Committee says the push to privatize booze sales in Pennsylvania means a delicate balance between public safety and consumer convenience in the city of Philadelphia.
“We’ve got to move into the 21st century and you’ve got to modernize,” Majority Leader Mike Turzai says. “And we’re trying to do the best we can, in our proposal, in balancing competing interests.”
The bill passed by the House and sent to the governor will still limit the total number of Happy Hours to 14 a week, but establishments could now have up to four hours a day instead of only two.
