The President issued the proclamation shortly after Mandela passed away on Thursday afternoon.
Governor Chris Christie signed an Executive Order that orders all State buildings to fly flags at half-staff on Friday, October 4th to honor the service and sacrifice of United States Army Staff Sergeant Timothy R. McGill.
Pennsylvania state flags at the Capitol Complex and at commonwealth facilities in Monroe County will be lowered to half-staff beginning Sunday, Aug. 11th.
Flags will remain at half-staff through sunset on Saturday, April 20, 2013.
Governor Markell has also ordered the American and Delaware flags at state buildings and facilities also be flown at half-staff until the end of the day on December 18.
