Local 22 president Joe Schulle says the families of firefighters Robert Neary and Daniel Sweeney were devastated by the DA’s announcement that no charges would be filed in connection with the fire at the former Buck Hosiery Co. warehouse, in Kensington.
Diane Neary, widow of Lt. Robert Neary, told reporters at City Hall that, if approved, the proposed legislation would help the city avoid further such tragedies.
Engine company 66, in Roxborough, remains closed while investigators trace the source of toxic fumes that sickened some firefighters.
One day after the firefighters union ousted its leader, the Nutter Administration announced the mayor is setting aside more than $30 million towards a resolution of its long-running contract dispute with the union.
“It’s been attempted before in the state and has not succeeded,” a union spokesman admits.
