Philadelphia City Council Approves 3.85-Percent Property Tax Hike; Mayor Vetoes DROP

Proceeds from that property tax bump — combined with a meter rate increase for street parking and some city surplus funds — will give the school district an extra $53 million.

Court Clears Way For 2 Incumbent Philadelphia City Council Members To Stay On Ballot

At issue where the re-election bids of city council members Marion Tasco and Frank Rizzo, along with the candidacy of City Commissioner Marge Targtaglione. All three are enrolled in the DROP pension program, and all three intend to return to office if re-elected.

Councilmembers Squirming Over Nutter’s Proposed Budget

Following the mayor’s speech to City Council on Thursday morning, Councilman Frank Rizzo called the mayor’s budget “a first draft,” and he expects Nutter to wind up blaming Governor Corbett for the final result.
