Every year it happens: Big-league trades send hitters and pitchers from the National League to the American League—and vice versa. This isn’t always a good thing, though, as pitchers have a hard time adjusting going from the NL to the AL, while hitters have a hard time adjusting going from the AL to the NL.
If the A’s are going to make the playoffs again, it will be on the strength of their pitching. A.J. Griffin will be a big part of that.
