Midday news anchor Steve Nikazy has been a regular player on the KYW Newsradio broadcast team since 1990, and is the anchor of KYW’s Monday-Friday daily broadcast, “Reporters’ Roundup,” which showcases the work of the station’s veteran staff.
A winner of multiple AP Broadcast awards, Steve’s duties have also included moderating KYW Newsradio’s “Breakfast With the Candidates” pre-election programs and coverage of Tall Ships events at Penn’s Landing.
A film fan, Steve produces and hosts the KYW On Demand podcast “Yada Yada Movies” with KYW film critic Bill Wine.
Steve was on the air when the first war in the Persian Gulf began. Asked about the most memorable news events during his time at KYW Newsradio 1060, Steve says, “I’d have to say the John Heinz plane crash, the OJ Simpson story, and the Oklahoma City bombing figure big. Coverage of the September 11th attacks was an event that changed my perspective on a lot of things.”
A native of east Tennessee, Steve began his broadcasting career in music radio in Orlando, Fla., then made the switch to news with stops in Austin, Tex.; Denver, Colo.; Washington, DC; and Philadelphia. In the City of Brotherly Love he began as a reporter and later became news director at WFIL.
Steve lives just a short walk from the KYW Newsradio studios, in the Society Hill section of Philadelphia.
