Matt Leon
Coming on board at KYW was a homecoming for Matt Leon. Born and raised in southern New Jersey, Matt is a radio veteran who moved away from the Delaware Valley for several years before returning to join the Newsradio team.
A 1992 graduate of Clayton High School in Gloucester County, NJ, Matt attended York College of Pennsylvaniawhere he majored in mass communications with an emphasis in radio and TV. He earned his degree in 1996.
Matt’s first radio job was as the afternoon DJ for WHVR radio in Hanover, Pa. He then joined the Radio Pennsylvania Network as their weekend sports anchor. He complemented his radio background by doing some TV work as a fill-in sports anchor at the York, Pa. Fox affiliate, WPMT.
After three years in the greater York area, Matt moved on to State College, where he served as sports director for WRSC, WQWK, and WNCL. There he hosted the market’s top-rated talk show and covered Penn State football and basketball.
Following a two-year stint in Happy Valley, Matt moved to the midwest, spending a year as the sports director for Missourinet, the state network for Missouri, based in Jefferson City.
The highlight of his stay there was the opportunity to cover the Philadelphia Eagles’ NFC title game appearance in St. Louis against the Rams. This was his last stop before joining KYW Newsradio.
Matt spent five years as the radio play-by-play voice for the University of Pennsylvania football team. In 2008 he was named play-by-play announcer for Philadelphia University men’s and women’s basketball.
Matt lives in Clayton, NJ.
