Bruises, Kudos, Boos And A Motley Crew

The Phillies are in serious trouble now. The team is not scoring many runs and has had to rely on its pitching. Now it seems to have a pitching problem with the injury to Cliff Lee. The talented left-hander injured his left oblique while pitching ten shut-out innings last week in San Francisco and he has been placed on the fifteen-day disabled list.

Competitors And Class Acts

Baseball openers are on everyone’s mind, especially the Phillies’. But I suggest that the most meaningful games being played this month will be in Pittsburgh. They are hockey games.

Phillies, Utley Have Communication Issues?

It would appear that the Phillies and Chase Utley are not on mutually agreeable speaking terms – at least for now. You can only hope that, when the season starts and the games have some real meaning, the communications process will improve.

All Kinds Of Surprises Round The Sports Dial

With baseball just around the corner, a look at the Phillies’ health problems is in order. Chase Utley is visiting another unnamed specialist about his chronically injured knees and the general manager is more than a little concerned.

The Super Bowl usually gives us something to remember. Seven weeks ago the New York Giants were 7-7 and today they sit atop the National Football League. This game XLVI, except for the Manning family, didn’t provide us with many thrills.

There isn’t much question that the sports story of this week was written by a fellow named Bill O’Brien when he signed a contract to coach football at Penn State. He is, indeed, taking on a Herculean task.
