I recently rescued a cat from someone who was going to give her to a kill shelter but cannot keep her as I am not allowed to have a cat in apartment. I have tried to adopt her out but even though is wonderful, sometimes she pees outside of her little box and noone wants to take her. I have contacted many shelters but no-kill ones will not take her with her problem. What should I do?

If the cat is peeing in a certain spot try putting the litter box in that spot. She is probably trying to surround herself with a familiar smell (her own) for comfort. She may be upset from being taken from her home.

  2. I am so glad you rescued this cat! So many cats have litter box problems. A few things to try: having one more litter box than you have cats, put it in a place she can get to whenever she wants but that is private enough, don\’t change the routine of the house and monitor activity outside, as all of this can impact a cat\’s use of the litter box. Are there other cats in the house? Have you ruled out a urinary tract infection, which is very common in cats. You can email me directly at erickson@cbs3.com and we can keep working on the problem! you can also try a different litter, and try to track when she is going outside the box.
