    3. Carol, Have you heard any reports on the hazards of the Martingale dog collar? Last week my firend's two dogs, who wear these collars, were playing when the collar got wrapped around one of the dog's lower jaw. Since these collars do not have a quick release, they were not able to get it off and the dog was asphyxiated. Despite this tragedy, they still feel the collar is a useful tool. However, they advise the collar not be left on your dog except when using a leash. Could you please help spare other dog lovers this heartache by reporting on the potential risks? We are doing what we can to put the word out there. Thanks so much!

    9. I'm having trouble using this site to pose a question to "Ask a Vet" This site is very difficult to use, as the search brings more ads than substance. I cannot seem tofind a vet with common sense. I have a 5 year old cat with seasonal allergies, every spring and fall I call and request mleds to relieve his suffering, and twice a year the vets, vet tech etc -- well you have to bring him in. I am flat out tired of paying upward of $250 for a visit when a script could be written. It's been more than established that this cat had seasonal allergies. Please help me understand this rip-off!

    10. my 100lb Rottie, Lucy, just swallowed a cooked chicken leg whole. It slipped out of my husbands hand on to the floor and as I said "leave it" she swallowed. Never bit or crunched it. How worried should we be?

    7. my dog had a mild seizure the other day. I took him to the vet and he has been diagnosed with lyme disease. can Dr. Geffin provide an insight? The seizure scared me to death and the prognosis is undaunting I need some idea of what I am in for as a loving dog owner with a dog diagnosed with lyme disease and / or a seizure problem.     8. Hi Carol, my dog was "diagnosed with a grade 4 heart murmur by my local "chain store vet". I was told I would need a $500 vet cardiology consult to confirm and treat. I find this outrageous and unfortunately am not in a financial position to get this consult and am hoping there are other options available that you may be familiar with. I can't believe that there vets without a cardiology fellowship are not capable of treating a heart murmur with the necessary medications.

    9. Carol I am writing to you as a volunteer of Greyhound Angels Adoption. We are a no kill adoption group dedicated to finding homes for retired racing Greyhounds. We also give back to the community thru our Hounds for Hero's program that adopts Greyhounds to our military veterans free of charge ! We also have volunteers that participate as canine blood donors with the University of PA blood bank program. Om Sept 14th we will be holding the 1st Annual Great Homes for Greyt Hounds 5 K race and 1 mile Fun Walk - dogs WELCOME in the walk. We would LOVE it if you would come out and join us as our Celebrity Master of Ceremonies for the event.

    6. Any advice, tips before I adopt a 2-yr old deaf Bull terrier mix? She's well-socialized, but I don't know if she knows signs yet. ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x7RkB1exs38&feature=youtu.be ) Some handlers say deaf dogs do well with a hearing dog in the house, to take cues from, for behavior and commands. Rescuer says this dog has a strong owner allegience, so the other dog should be brought home first. Your opinion on vibration collars for training??

    9. I recently read some disturbing info on flea and tick meds in an artical on 50 things your vet won't tell you. One of the 50 was how dangerous they are and the horrible side effects that can occure. I have noticed that the weight table they use are very broad. 16-30 lbs is where my Spanky falls but he is only 17 lbs.... so he would be over dosed according to box. Should this be used as preventative or as needed and what are the safest brands to use? Thanks
