    5. My dog is now considered a "senior" and the vet wants a full &very pricey blood work done to use as a gauge for the future (and do it every few years). Is this a money-maker for the vet? I am on a very limited income.

    6. my dog had a mild seizure the other day. I took him to the vet and he has been diagnosed with lyme disease. can Dr. Geffin provide an insight? The seizure scared me to death and the prognosis is undaunting I need some idea of what I am in for as a loving dog owner with a dog diagnosed with lyme disease and / or a seizure problem.     7. Hi Carol, my dog was "diagnosed with a grade 4 heart murmur by my local "chain store vet". I was told I would need a $500 vet cardiology consult to confirm and treat. I find this outrageous and unfortunately am not in a financial position to get this consult and am hoping there are other options available that you may be familiar with. I can't believe that there vets without a cardiology fellowship are not capable of treating a heart murmur with the necessary medications.

    8. Carol I am writing to you as a volunteer of Greyhound Angels Adoption. We are a no kill adoption group dedicated to finding homes for retired racing Greyhounds. We also give back to the community thru our Hounds for Hero's program that adopts Greyhounds to our military veterans free of charge ! We also have volunteers that participate as canine blood donors with the University of PA blood bank program. Om Sept 14th we will be holding the 1st Annual Great Homes for Greyt Hounds 5 K race and 1 mile Fun Walk - dogs WELCOME in the walk. We would LOVE it if you would come out and join us as our Celebrity Master of Ceremonies for the event.

    10. I have a friend who's wife recently passed away. He is moving and cannot take his 2 dogs. THey are approximately 12 & 14 yrs old. He tried thte local SPCA they would not take them due to their ages. I also have tried to contact Francisvale Home for animals only got one repsonse and nothing. Can you help with a place or someone who can take the dogs. Thank you Debi Field

    5. Carol, I am upset about a stray kitty I rescued. I took her to PAWS and she tested neg. for Feline Leukemia, but had a cut that was infected. I kept her a week giving her antibiotics and keeping her separate from my pets as per vet orders. I turned her in to the Montgomery County SPCA and they told me today she will be put down because of her cut. I did some research and the CDC only recommends quarantining bitten animals (I don't even know if her cut was a bite) for 10 days for rabies, but Montgomery Co. requires a 6 month quarantine. They are letting me take her back but they are going to turn in my name to the health department. I need help with this situation. She is young, affectionate, and it has now been eleven days since I found her. What can I do to save her? Sincerely, Karin Spiegler

    7. Please look at the Facebook page Bring Hannah Home. She is a white american bulldog missing from the Joplin tornado last May. Hannah's army is 13K strong. Hannah survived the tornado and was likely taken from the area by person's unknown. The Facebook page provides info and her owners are Kari and Carl Wilkes. Please help Hannah's owners find her. It is a sad but great story. you are always concerned about pets. Please help bring Hannah home to her owners who miss her terribly. Thank you.

    8. I have a 19 year old cat. She is having trouble walking, sometimes staggers, only gets up to eat or to the bathroom. Has stopped using litter box, now have to put down puppy pads. Also, her breathing has changed. I know if I take her to the vet, they will tell me to put her to sleep, but I can't bring myself to do that. Do you have any idea what could be wrong with her?
