It’s called “Pepper Nitro with a Jerky Twist.”

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — A North Philadelphia church is helping ex-offenders get a second chance through a partnership with a local grocery store chain, and those who graduate get a guaranteed foot in the door.

Sharey Precia wakes up at every morning at 6 o’clock and goes to this makeshift grocery store at Enon Tabernacle Church with a smile.

“It’s so amazing coming here, I learned so much,” she said.

This single mother of two is one of the 40 enrolled in the Uplift Work Solutions Program, a partnership with Brown’s ShopRite that opens doors for ex-offenders.

“It’s just so hard for me to find work to take care of me and my family, Precia” said.

Uplift provides four weeks of life skills and two weeks of cashier training.

Attendees get a weekly transpass and $125 stipend, as well as free lunch.

The best part.

“Guaranteed a job, guaranteed a job,” said Instructor Monique Oakman-Robinson.

She says all graduates get a cashier job at one of more than a half-dozen Brown’s ShopRite or Fresh Grocer stores in Philadelphia, a game changing opportunity.

“I’ve seen them transform right in front of my eyes, and it’s so wonderful,” she said.

Once a retail manager, Victor Salgado spent the past five years behind bars, and for him a cashier’s job is rare chance.

“You can better yourself and prison doesn’t make you, he said.

A lesson, this group is hoping pays off for years to come.

The managing editor at Rasmussen Reports, Fran Coombs says 39 percent of Republican voters believe their fellow Republicans are becoming more conservative than their party’s leadership.

Among Democrats, 35 percent say Democrats voters are becoming more liberal than their leaders.

“Voters are becoming increasingly disenchanted with their leaders in Washington,” Coombs said.

The Rasmussen survey found that as the GOP-controlled Senate fumbled the healthcare repeal, voters are now more likely to believe Republicans in Congress are a bigger problem for President Trump, than Democrats are.

Coombs says responding Republicans still “identify more with Mr. Trump than their representatives in Congress.”

“Upwards of two-thirds of voters are saying that the guys in Washington are out of step,” he said.

And about that proposed wall along the Mexican border? The latest Rasmussen Reports national survey finds 37 percent of likely voters still support it. That’s down from 51 percent when candidate Donald Trump first proposed it in 2015.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Senate on Tuesday confirmed Christopher Wray to lead the FBI, replacing James Comey, who was abruptly fired by President Donald Trump amid the investigation into Russia meddling in last year’s presidential election.

The vote was 92-5 for Wray, a former high-ranking official in President George W. Bush’s Justice Department who oversaw investigations into corporate fraud. Wray, 50, inherits an FBI at a particularly challenging time given Trump’s ousting of Comey, who was admired within the bureau.

“This is a tough time to take this tough job,” Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., said during Senate debate of the nomination. “The previous FBI director, as we know, was fired because of the Russia investigation. The former acting attorney general was fired. And we’ve had a slew of other firings throughout the government over the last few months.”

Wray won unanimous support from the Senate Judiciary Committee last month, with Republicans and Democrats praising his promise never to let politics get in the way of the bureau’s mission.

Asserting his independence at his confirmation hearing, Wray said: “My loyalty is to the Constitution and the rule of law. Those have been my guideposts throughout my career, and I will continue to adhere to them no matter the test.”

Trump roiled Washington in May, firing Comey in the midst of his 10-year term as the FBI was investigating Russia’s role in the election and possible ties to Trump campaign officials.

Wray has worked on white-collar crime and regulatory cases as a partner at the King & Spalding law firm. From May 2001 to May 2005, he held various high-ranking positions in the Justice Department, rising to the head of the criminal division in September 2003. He also served as principal associate deputy attorney general.

He was a federal prosecutor in the U.S. attorney’s office for the Northern District of Georgia from May 1997 to May 2001.

“Mr. Wray possesses the skill, the character and the unwavering commitment to impartial enforcement of the law that we need in a FBI Director,” said Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, chairman of the Judiciary Committee.

The top Democrat on the panel, California Sen. Dianne Feinstein, said Wray “has the strength and fortitude to stand up and do what it is right when tested.”

She added, “We need leaders with steel spines, not weak knees, and I am hopeful that Mr. Wray will be just such a leader.”

Wray had represented New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie in the so-called Bridgegate scandal.

NORRISTOWN, Pa. (CBS) — Police in Montgomery County are searching for a man accused of sexually assaulting a jogger.

The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office says a 19-year-old woman was sexually assaulted at gunpoint while running in Norristown Farm Park on Tuesday around 10:50 a.m.

The victim called 911 and she was transported to Einstein Medical Center.

The search for the suspect in the park by West Norriton Police, East Norriton Police and Montgomery County Detectives caused Norristown State Hospital to be placed on lockdown. The lockdown has since been lifted.

Sections of Norristown Farm Park have been roped off and closed as the investigation remains ongoing.

People familiar with the area expressed shock over the incident.

“A little nervous to go back out there,” said Sue Vaughn. “I’m going to share it with my office co-workers and let them know. Hopefully, we’ll buddy up and not walk alone.”

The suspect is described as as black man wearing a black mask, or a dark-hooded sweatshirt, and armed with a handgun.

Detectives are asking anyone who may have witnessed this suspect entering or exiting the park to call East Norriton Police at 610-272-0748, West Norriton Police at 610-630-1701 or Montgomery County Detectives at 610-278-3368.

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Police have identified the suspect in the deadly Haverford Township shooting as his vehicle has been recovered in West Philadelphia.

Police have identified the suspect as 24-year-old Derrick Rollins. He still remains at large.

$5,000 Reward Offered In Fatal Haverford Township Shooting 

Rollins is accused of shooting and killing 29-year-old John Le on Saturday near Haverford Road in Delaware County.

Police say he was caught on a security camera fleeing the scene wearing a red hoodie.

Investigators say Rollins is also linked to another seemingly random attack in the Overbrook Park section of Philadelphia.

Man Climbs Atop Philadelphia’s City Hall And No One Noticed

It happened 45 minutes before the Haverford homicide. Police say the suspect is accused of shooting at two people, missing them, but hitting the car they were in. He was then seen fleeing in the gray Volvo.

The break in the case came on Tuesday when detectives got a called about that Volvo.

A neighbor saw it speeding Saturday evening just after the Overbrook shooting, but before the killing of Le.

But that eyewitness didn’t know the information was important until turning on the news last night.

“They were able to record the first three numbers of the tag and said the last four digits had 2-3 “eights” in that sequence that’s where the Pennsylvania state intelligence until comes in, they did a search in the immediate vicinity, which led us to the car we recovered this morning,” said Lt. John Walker, with the Philadelphia Police department.

Police found the Volvo in front of a home near the 5100 block of Locust Street. Rollins wasn’t there but his girlfriend was. Police say she’s cooperating.

Rollins is described as 6-feet tall and weighs around 160 pounds with a thin build. He has a dark complexion, full close cropped beard and mustache and was last seen wearing a thin red pullover sweatshirt and gray jeans.

Police are offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction.

The video posted online shows men grabbing at least one alligator by the tail putting a lit cigarette in its mouth and pouring a liquid down the reptile’s throat.

“A beverage which was in a bottle consistent of a beer bottle,” said the society’s director of human law enforcement Nicole Wilson.

She says they currently investigating the contents of the video.

“We are trying to determine the location of where the video was shot,” she said. “On the identities of all individuals viewed in the video as well as anybody that might not be visible.”

The annual PGA TOUR slugfest is on tap this week at Firestone Country Club’s big-boy layout, the South Course, when the $9.5 million World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational returns with its usual stellar cast of characters.

A field of 76 players, 15 more than last year, descends on Akron, Ohio, which has hosted a professional golf event every year since 1954 with the Rubber City Open. World No. 1, Dustin Johnson, and major winners Sergio Garcia, Brooks Koepka and Jordan Spieth headline a list of competitors that includes 48 of the top 50 in the Official World Golf Ranking vying for the Gary Player Cup.

The South Course at Firestone has proven over the decades to be one of the most demanding on the PGA TOUR. The par-70 layout measures 7,400 yards, and its personality is best expressed in one of the most famous holes in golf, the 667-yard par-5 16^th. The late Arnold Palmer called the 16^th hole a “Monster” while making triple bogey during the 1960 PGA Championship, and the name has stuck. A stone bridge by the green is being named in his honor on Wednesday.

Johnson is the defending champion, and he currently owns three WGC titles heading to Akron, having also won the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play and the WGC-Mexico Championship earlier this year. The South Carolina slugger has won five WGCs overall. But no one, not even Tiger Woods, ever has won three WGC titles in the same calendar year. Johnson can be the first if he repeats on the South Course.

What has been the key to Firestone South’s long history of hosting PGA TOUR events? Just an all-around tough test?

I hate clichés, but I’m going to use one. It’s right there in front of you. No trickery. You have to go from point A to point B and hit the shots. As Ken Venturi used to say, 16 holes run north-south, so you have to pay attention. And if the wind gets blowing from east or west, it can be a diabolical course to control your golf ball.

Tiger Woods is the last player to win back-to-back in Akron, 10 years ago. Can Dustin Johnson join him as a repeat winner and be the first player to win three WGCs in a year?

He could easily end up winning the WGC grand slam or something like that. It would be quite an accomplishment if he defended his title, but this is a hard event to win with such a strong field. Plus, I’m not sure he’s 100 percent yet. There might be lingering issues with his back. He hasn’t been showing the same body language since the Masters injury.

Another big caddie change in the news. Rory McIlroy has dropped J.P. Fitzgerald. A good move?

No one has ever questioned Rory’s physical skills, aside from putting. But a lot of people have questioned his desire and motivation. This move answers the question from his detractors about how badly he wants to win. You don’t make changes like this at this time of the year unless you’re motivated to get better. He has proven he is motivated.

They’re honoring Arnold Palmer this week at Firestone. He won three times on the course and gave the 16^th hole its nickname.

This is the year that everybody is going to pay tribute to Arnold. Each tournament we go to is the first without him. At the Canadian Open, there was the “AP 55” button they were giving away. It’s a year of remembering Arnold, and clearly it’s well deserved when you think about what he did for golf. Arnold, Frank Chirkinian, the advent of television, Jack Nicklaus … it was all a perfect storm. When you think about his career from [the point of view of] winning majors, it was a short window. But he continued to hit it through the trees and be a great ambassador for golf for decades. He was great with fans and media, and made golf something bigger than it was.

Firestone is a tough test, as we’ve already established. Is it a good warmup for the PGA Championship most years?

There are four types of players: there are driver and analytic guys, and then there are amiable and expressive types. Jack Nicklaus, Bernhard Langer, Nick Faldo would be in that first group. Lee Trevino, Fuzzy Zoeller, Ben Crenshaw, Fred Couples I’d put in the latter group.

There’s this age-old question of should you play the week before a major, and the answer is about personality. The amiable and expressive players, like Dustin Johnson, are going to enjoy this week, to play their way into the next week and build their confidence. Phil Mickelson, for example, likes to play the week before a major. The drivers and analytic types, who prefer to practice the week before, are going to be working on their games while they are competing. Not that they don’t want to win, but they also are thinking ahead and focusing more on where they want their game to be for the PGA Championship.

Favorites and dark horses?

Brooks Koepka, the way he has been playing, would be a favorite. I also like Adam Scott, with his ability to drive the ball, and the fact that he has won there. A dark horse has a different definition this week when it’s such a strong field. So, I say Jon Rahm, since he has never played there before. And I wouldn’t be surprised if Paul Casey has a good chance.

According to NorthJersey.com, the house on 44 Pleasant Ave. that was designed by architect Dudley S. Van Antwerp is going for $10 or less, but the person who buys it must move it to a location a quarter-mile away.

In June, the Montclair Planning Board approved an eight-lot subdivision on the property, but the board said the home must be sold and relocated in an effort to save it, NorthJersey.com reports.

The 2017 Hall of Fame Game between the Dallas Cowboys and the Arizona Cardinals takes place this Thursday, meaning from now until February, there will be football on every weekend. With the most glorious time of the year finally here, we are going to take a look at each division around the NFL and break down the best player at each position, on both offense and defense. First up is potentially the strongest division in the NFL, the NFC East.

QB: Dak Prescott, Dallas Cowboys

This decision was a close one between Prescott and Washington’s Kirk Cousins, but the Cowboy gets the nod after his stellar rookie season that saw him take Tony Romo’s job from right under him. Prescott completed 67.8 percent of his passes for 3,667 yards with an impressive 23-4 touchdown-to-interception ratio, adding 282 yards and six touchdowns on the ground. While teams now have NFL game tape on the QB (unlike last year), Prescott still has the vaunted Dallas o-line in front of him, meaning he should have plenty of time in the backfield this season. Look for last year’s Offensive Rookie of the Year to improve on his strong rookie campaign.

RB: Ezekiel Elliott, Dallas Cowboys

Many were shocked when Prescott finished with seven more votes than Elliott for Rookie of the Year. The rookie back could not be stopped last year, carrying the ball 322 times for a league-best 1,631 yards (5.1 yards per carry) and 15 touchdowns on his way to a third place finish for NFL MVP. Elliott’s aggressive run style is a major factor of his success, as he racked up 938 yards after contact last season, according to Pro Football Focus. Similar to Prescott, Elliott has the benefit of running behind one of the best offensive lines in the league with the Cowboys. If he can stay away from the issues off the field, Elliott is primed for another big season.

WR: Odell Beckham Jr., New York Giants

It’s easy to let his big personality overshadow his performance on the field, but Beckham has put together one of the greatest starts to a receiver’s career in NFL history. He has tied or broken countless NFL records, and has been one of the most consistent receivers over the last three seasons. Last year was the first season that saw Beckham appear in all 16 games, and it is no coincidence that it also led to the star receiver’s first campaign with 100+ receptions. Beckham has made headlines recently by saying he wants to be the NFL’s highest paid player. While that seems more like a pipe dream, if he can keep up this level of production, Beckham could soon find himself as the league’s highest-paid wide receiver.

WR: Dez Bryant, Dallas Cowboys

Bryant had a down year in 2016, finishing the season with 50 receptions for 796 yards and eight touchdowns in 13 games. The dominance of Dallas’ run game was likely a big reason for the dip in Bryant’s numbers, but the receiver still managed to average a career-high 15.9 yards per catch. With Prescott now having a full year as the Cowboys quarterback under his belt, as well as the growing relationship between the signal-caller and star receiver, Bryant is a strong candidate to have a bounce-back season.

WR: Alshon Jeffery, Philadelphia Eagles

Jeffery is one of the more interesting players in the division. The former second-round pick is a newcomer to the NFC East after playing his first five seasons with the Bears, and adds even more talent to the already deep wide receiver depth within the division. Jeffery caught 52 receptions for 821 yards last season, but finished with a career-low two touchdowns, so the change of scenery could not be coming at a better time. While the talent is there, the biggest knock on the 27-year old is his health; Jeffery has missed at four or more games in three of his five seasons. If he can stay on the field, Jeffery will provide Carson Wentz with the big, talented target that the rookie QB was missing last season.

TE: Jordan Reed, Washington Redskins

This was one of the easiest decisions on the list, as Reed has developed into one of the NFL’s top tight ends over the last two years. During that span, the tight end has caught 153 passes for 1,638 yards and 17 touchdowns, and that is with him missing five games. Reed is one of the most athletic tight ends in the NFL, which helps make him a very dangerous red zone threat. With the departures of Desean Jackson and Pierre Garcon, Reed will likely receive an increase in targets from quarterback Kirk Cousins, who will need Reed to become his go-to safety valve. All signs point to a huge season from Reed.

LT: Trent Williams, Washington Redskins

Williams missed four games last season due to a suspension, but when he was on the field, Williams was the best left tackle in the NFL. The 29-year-old lineman earned the highest grade among all offensive tackles by Pro Football Focus after allowing just 16 QB pressures across 12 starts. Williams was dominant in both pass protection and run blocking, and was even briefly moved to guard due to other injuries among Washington’s offensive linemen and still played well. The 6-foot-5 lineman had what could be considered the strongest season of his career in 2016, and finally seems to be living up to his potential as a top-five pick.

LG: Justin Pugh, New York Giants

After being moved from right tackle earlier in his career, Pugh has found a nice home as New York’s left guard. The veteran received the 16th-highest grade among all guards in 2016 by Pro Football Focus, who noted how significantly better the Giants o-line played when he was in the lineup. He did miss five games due to injury, but even with the absence, PFF graded Pugh as the fourth-best run blocking guard in the NFL last year. The Giants love to use Pugh’s athleticism to pull and trap, which should provide a nice boost to New York’s running game. Pugh will be playing for a new contract this season, so don’t be surprised if he ends up having one of his best seasons.

C: Travis Frederick, Dallas Cowboys

Frederick has been the most consistent player on the Cowboys’ offensive line for the last three seasons, which says a lot considering how strong that group is. The 26-year-old followed up two seasons as a second team All-Pro with his first season as a first-team All-Pro, and has developed into one of the smartest players in the league. Prescott himself attributed a large part of his success last season to the guidance and play of his center. Frederick has not allowed a sack in over two seasons, and his mobility and technique in the run blocking game is a sight to behold. The center has also found a way to remain healthy throughout his first four seasons, starting all 16 games in each campaign. Frederick will look to add to his resume this season as one of the NFL’s top centers.

RG: Zack Martin, Dallas Cowboys

Martin has been to the Pro Bowl in all three of his seasons in the NFL, and has been a first or second-team All-Pro in all three as well, solidifying himself as one of the league’s best guards. Martin is strong in pass protection, allowing only two sacks last season, but it is his run blocking that is truly impressive. Ezekiel Elliot led all running backs in yards before contact last year with 540, and the biggest reason for that is the push Martin was able to get off the line. With Doug Free leaving in free agency, Martin becomes an even more important part of Dallas’ offensive line, and will have to take the new starting right tackle (La’el Collins) under his wing.

RT: Lane Johnson, Philadelphia Eagles

Due to his 10-game suspension last season, many have forgotten just how good Lane Johnson is. Johnson emerged as one of the best right tackles in the league over the last few seasons, and it showed in the six games he appeared in during 2016. His 86.7 run-blocking grade from PFF was one of the top grades among tackles, and he also did not allow even one sack. With the suspension in his rear view mirror, Johnson is looking forward to re-establishing his reputation as one of the NFL’s best offensive linemen.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA (CBS) — Three months from the scheduled start of his retrial on sex assault charges, and a key member of Bill Cosby’s defense has filed a motion to withdraw from the case.

Attorney Brian McMonagle has filed to withdraw as Bill Cosby’s attorney. McMonagle says Cosby is taking necessary steps to secure new counsel but requests until Aug. 21.

There is no word on who will replace McMonagle though Cosby’s publicist, Andrew Wyatt, says “I am still vetting attorneys on am short list,” adding attorney Angela Agrusa is still on the team.

McMonagle’s request to withdraw still needs the OK from Montgomery County Judge Stephen O’Neill, who has scheduled a hearing on Aug. 22.

Cosby’s retrial is currently scheduled for Nov. 6.

No word from McMonagle on the reason for his request to withdraw, but there was notable friction between McMonagle and Cobsy’s publicist, most clearly seen following the declaration of the mistrial.

Rather than studying the driver, Volvo’s system looks at the car, keeping an eye on its position within lane markings. An alarm sounds when it senses you need a break.

That’s also the result of Mercedes Attention Assist. It uses a profile built during the first minutes of your drive, and considers things like how you interact with vehicle controls as it monitors for signs of fatigue.

Local Congressmen are backing amendments to allocate millions of federal dollars to pay for health screenings for those in affected communities and to pay for the massive clean up of the tainted water near military bases.

Republican Brian Fitzpatrick of the 8th district says progress is being made.

“They passed the house, some through voice vote something which they call suspension and others went up for a vote and now that they have been passed by the house they’re heading to the Senate for consideration,” he said.

He says an estimated 70,000 people have been impacted by contaminated public and private water wells in Bucks and Montgomery Counties.

Samantha Rogers, of Des Moines, said her baby Juliano developed the sores in and around his mouth, and tested positive for the herpes simplex type 1 virus after three hospital stays and multiple visits.

Although the HSV-1 virus, which is known to cause cold sores, is typically harmless in adults, it is considered extremely dangerous for newborns due to their vulnerable immune systems.

“It sucks because it’s a lifelong problem now,” Rogers said. “I don’t know how to handle this. I am trying my best. It breaks my heart, and I can’t do anything to help him.”

Rogers first noticed Juliano’s red blisters in and around his mouth on July 21, but doctors told her the baby had contracted the flu or a bad case of Hand Foot and Mouth disease.

The Iowa mother shared unsettling photos of her son covered in sores to warn parents to be careful about who they let close to their babies.

The Iowa incident quickly follows a similar case in which a baby died 10 days after becoming infected with Meningitis HSV1, which is caused by the herpes virus, from what was likely someone’s cold sore.

Not long after the four men were reported missing, the search centered on a 90-acre farm in Solebury Township. Weintraub says cadaver dogs hit on five locations on the property, but as the hours and days ticked by.

“We were oh-for-four and I just remember feeling a great sense of despair, myself,” he said.

Weintraub says it seemed like hope was fading.

“The hole is being dug deeper and deeper and deeper and I’m talking 6 feet, 7 feet, 8 feet, 9 feet,” he said.

Still no sign of the bodies, with a heat index at points over 100-degrees, in dusty conditions.

“And these men and women are in there and they have to wear these Tyvek suits that are basically like greenhouses, little personal greenhouses,” he said.

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — Gov. Chris Christie has signed a bill that gives back pay to New Jersey state workers affected by this summer’s three-day government shutdown.

NJ Senate Approves Back Pay For State Workers Furloughed During Budget Battle

Christie said in statement Tuesday that the new law “justly reinstates” the pay state workers lost over the shutdown of nonessential government services from July 1 to July 3.

The Republican governor ordered some government services, including state parks, closed after he and the Democrat-led Legislature failed to enact a budget by the deadline. At issue was Christie’s demand to makeover the state’s biggest health insurer.

The shutdown ended after lawmakers sent Christie a budget and photos captured by NJ.com showed the governor lounging on Island Beach State Park, which was closed to the public.

Booker announced his measure Tuesday in a Facebook Live video.

He says the legislation is needed to because the federal marijuana prohibition unfairly affects poor and minority citizens, who he says are subject to arrest at greater rates than wealthier and white people.

The legislation comes in the face of U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ stiff opposition to the drug. Sessions has said he wants to crack down on the drug even as a growing number of states legalize it.

Eight states and the District of Columbia have legalized marijuana.

The company had previously made a big deal of staying closed on Thanksgiving “out of respect” for its employees and their families. GameStop says store associates and guests have clamored for their stores to be open on the holiday.

OCEAN CITY, Md. (AP) — Police say the body of a 30-year-old woman has been found on a Maryland beach.

Local news outlets report that Ocean City police were notified about the body Monday morning after beachgoers discovered it in a hole in the sand. City communications manager Jessica Waters says the remains have been identified as belonging to Plano, Texas resident Ashley O’Connor.

CBS Local — Getting paid to exercise did little to encourage people who just joined a gym — and expected to visit regularly — to stick to their commitment, according to a new study from Case Western Reserve University.

Participants in the study were promised one of three rewards for visiting the gym nine total times throughout six weeks: a $30 Amazon gift card, a prize item — such as a blender, of equivalent value — or a $60 Amazon gift card. A control group received a $30 Amazon gift card regardless of how often they visited.

But 14 percent did not visit the gym again after only the first week.

The incentives also had no lasting effect, as gym visits plateaued after the new gym members stopped receiving reward money.

New gym members who planned to visit three times per week wound up averaging one weekly visit by the end of the six-week period, according to the study. About 95 percent said they expected to visit more than once per week, but only about one-third had actually done so.

“They wanted to exercise regularly, and yet their behavior did not match their intent, even with a reward,” said Mariana Carrera, a professor at Case Western Reserve University and co-author of the study. “People thought earning the incentive would be easy but were way overoptimistic about how often they’d go.”

Even though the researchers deliberately timed the experiment for when people were motivated to exercise enough to purchase a new gym membership, their approach was ineffective in promoting healthy behavior that many Americans fail to obtain.

Only 21 percent of Americans get the weekly recommended amount of exercise, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

“Focusing on people when they’re ready to make a change may be misguided,” Carrera said. “Maybe the internal motivation that gets a person to start a gym membership is unrelated to what drives them to earn financial incentives. What’s clear was there was no complementarity in lumping these two motivations together.”

But the legendary voice of the Eagles may have taken his prediction to a totally different level, in the form of a HOT TAKE. 

Reese proclaimed that Wentz will become a top-five quarterback within three years.

Wentz, 24, threw for 3,782 yards, 16 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions finishing 7-9 in 16 starts as a rookie. This year, with new offensive weapons, the expectations are higher.

 
Vertical markets

The first thing you need to determine is which vertical market you serve today. For example, if you sell paper to school districts, you are by definition in the educational vertical market. Some of the larger vertical markets are healthcare, military, automotive, educational, pharmaceutical, construction, retail, real estate and agriculture. The point to consider is that it is highly likely the products you sell to one vertical market is consumed by other vertical markets. To grow your business, it is important to understand who consumes products similar to yours and how they are consumed.

 
Geographic markets

One of the easiest ways to grow your business is to expand into new cities and areas. If your current business market is limited to a specific geographic area, you can easily expand your sales coverage footprint into a new area by hiring a direct sales person or by leveraging indirect sales channels in that new market. Indirect sales channels, such as distributors, can be a very cost effective strategy to grow your business into a new area. Organizations such as the Manufactures Representatives of America, a national non-profit trade organization, can assist in finding an excellent sales representative.

 
New products and services

A good strategy to expand your small business revenue is to introduce new products or services to your existing customer base. These products and services can be obtained through purchase, consignment or through a sales commission agreement. As an example, cellular operators place their products for sale in gasoline stations and small local convenient stores. The small business owners of those businesses increase their revenues by selling products that they previously did not carry. The small business owner in this example can purchase and resell a product or they can sell it on behalf of the manufacturer and earn a commission on the sale. Either way, the small business owner will successfully increase revenues by introducing this new product.

College football season is almost here. As you prepare to root for your favorite team on Saturday, we’ll bring you previews of each conference, separating the teams into a couple categories: contenders, bowl teams, and rebuilding. The tiers are fairly self-explanatory. Contenders means these teams will push for the division/conference title. Bowl bidders are expected to be in the conversation for a bowl bid. Rebuilding teams are in the process of attempting to get into contention. At the end, we’ll give you our thoughts on the team’s wins based on Bovada’s Win Totals for the season.

Welcome to the Big 12, where after months of speculation and presentations to start last season, the conference decided not to expand after all. Instead, they added back the championship game despite having just 10 teams in the conference. This season, there are five teams that could make a run at a title game appearance, which could make this season a lot of fun.

Oklahoma Sooners

The Sooners only lost two games last season, but they both came early in high-profile showdowns against Houston and Ohio State. That left them basically out of the playoff picture in people’s minds before conference season began. However, they went on to rip off nine straight victories including a 35-19 pasting of Auburn in the Sugar Bowl. This year, they have a new head coach after Bob Stoops decided to retire, but Lincoln Riley has 16 guys back to work with.

The biggest boost to this team was Baker Mayfield deciding to forgo a chance to enter the NFL Draft and coming back for his senior season. The Sooners need him to guide a set of skill position guys that will be breaking in some new names. Having all five starters back along the offensive line should help as well. Despite the losses of Samaje Perine, Joe Mixon and DeDe Westbrook, it’s not like the cupboard is barren at RB/WR. Sophomore backs Rodney Anderson and Abdul Adams are former four and three-star recruits respectively while receivers Jeffrey Mead (Sr.) and Marquise Brown (So, JuCo) were both four-star guys. While they are relatively inexperienced, there’s plenty of talent led by a veteran QB and offensive line. This unit should be explosive once again, though may fall short of the otherworldly 43.9 PPG they averaged last season.

The defense was disappointing last year allowing nearly 30 points per game (28.8), though some of that can be explained by the significant injuries they suffered along the defensive line. This year, DC Mike Stoops has three starters back in the secondary (including 1st team Big 12 CB Jordan Thomas), two in the linebackers group and two along the line. I’d expect some improvement as long as they stay healthier than last year.

Lincoln Riley’s first year as head coach features a road game against Ohio State as well as road contests against K-State and Bedlam in Stillwater against Oklahoma State. Those three games stand out as significant tests as does the always heated Red River rivalry with Texas (hosted in Dallas). The Sooners have the talent to push for a playoff spot once more and that’s what I’d expect. Over 9.5 wins

Oklahoma State Cowboys

The Cowboys and their fans are still seething over that Central Michigan loss that shouldn’t have been a loss last season. In the grand scheme of things, it didn’t matter, but it kept the Cowboys from 11 wins. Mike Gundy and his glorious mullet has a talented team ready to challenge for the Big 12 title again.

Mason Rudolph, like Mayfield at Oklahoma, decided to forgo the draft and return for his senior year. His return, combined with explosive receiver James Washington (1,380 yards 19.4 YPC! 10 TD) and sophomore running back Justice Hill (1,142 yards 6 TD) makes for a group that should once again be among the country’s elite (38.6 PPG last year). The offensive line gets a boost from the return of guard Larry Williams and the addition of Cal grad transfer Aaron Cochran to make it a veteran group. The Cowboys are annually one of the better offenses in the FBS and this year will be no different.

The defense, was actually pretty solid by Big 12 standards where everything is more wide open due to the prevalence of spread offenses. The Cowboys gave up just 26.5 PPG and the biggest concern was the run defense allowing 193.5 YPG. That could still be a problem considering the loss of both defensive tackles from last year’s unit. DC Glenn Spencer in fact loses a pair of starters at each level of the defense which will likely lead to a drop in that PPG number. The guys to watch are 3rd team Big 12 S Tre Flowers and MLB Chad Whitener, who both return.

The biggest factor in the Cowboys favor is the schedule. They get TCU, Baylor, Oklahoma and Kansas State at home in Stillwater, with the lone big road game coming against Texas (10/21). The out of conference slate isn’t too tough, but don’t overlook a good Tulsa team in Week 1. The Cowboys should win that game, but Tulsa could make it interesting. Over 9 wins.

TCU Horned Frogs

Gary Patterson’s group took an expected step back last season after an 11-2 record in 2015. Still, they made a bowl game, and this year, they have 17 starters returning. The Horned Frogs should be right back in the thick of things in the Big 12.

QB Kenny Hill is back for his senior season after an up-and-down year as the starter last year. He had flashes of brilliance, but plenty of bad moments as he was pulled mid-game four times. He led the Big 12 in interceptions with 13, and will need to be better this season as there’s no experienced QB like Foster Sawyer behind him this season. Luckily for Hill, the top nine receivers are back from last year’s team as is 1,000-yard rusher Kyle Hicks. With a veteran offensive line that brings back four starters, this group is poised for a big year if Hill cuts down on the mistakes.

Defense has always been Patterson’s calling card, but in the last couple of years, the Horned Frogs have fallen off a bit allowing 27.2 PPG in 2015 and 28 last season. This year, he’s got a more veteran group back as a pair of All-Big 12 LBs and the entire secondary returns. They do lose three guys along the offensive line including leading sack master DE Josh Carraway. But, Patterson has recruited well, with seven three-star or better guys along the defensive line from previous years along with three-star true freshman DE Ochaun Mathis. The numbers should improve this year.

The Horned Frogs have to play OK State, Kansas State, and Oklahoma on the road, which makes for a tough path to winning the conference. It can be done, but they’ll have to pull off some big wins on the road. Regardless, I have them beating the Vegas number. Over 7.5 wins.

Texas Longhorns

The Longhorns started off 5-4 before dropping their final three games including a stunning OT loss to Kansas to finish 5-7. That led to Charlie Strong’s ousting and in comes Tom Herman from Houston. Herman guided the Cougars to a 22-4 mark in his two seasons at the helm and he’s got some good talent to get his tenure started here.

Last year, true freshman QB Shane Buechele won the job with senior Tyrone Swoopes seeing time in the “18 Wheeler Package” that was designed as a power running formation. Buechele acquitted himself well enough for a freshman completing 60.4 percent of his passes for 2,958 yards 21 TDs and 11 INTs. With a veteran offensive line (four starters back) and his top three receivers returning, those numbers should go up with Herman at the helm. The Longhorns do lose workhorse back D’Onta Foreman who left early for the NFL (Texans 3rd round pick), but Chris Warren should be able to pick up some of the slack with the solid line in front of him. In Herman’s two years at Texas, the Cougars scored 40+ points and 35 points respectively, so I’d expect this unit to improve on last year’s 31.9 PPG from last year.

The defense was bad to start the season allowing 47, 50, 49, and 45 points in the first five weeks (gave up 7 to UTEP). Then, Charlie Strong took over and the group improved allowing an average of 25.7 PPG over the final seven games. This season, new DC Todd Orlando inherits 10 starters from last year’s unit, but they switch to a 3-4 so there will be some adjustment. Overall, the returning experience leads me to expect a performance in line with the last seven games of last year.

The schedule has a crucial five week stretch that will determine whether the Longhorns are contending for the Big 12 title or just a bowl team. Starting on October 7th, Texas faces Kansas State, Oklahoma, OK State, Baylor and TCU with the final two games being on the road. How Herman navigates that five game stretch will determine the level of success he has in Year 1. Over 7.5.

Kansas State Wildcats

Bill Snyder returns for his ninth year in this go round with the Wildcats and his 26th year overall with the program with a team that is one of the most experienced groups he’s had. 14 starters are back including eight on offense and the Wildcats are once again going to be a tough out in the Big 12.

Jesse Ertz returns for his second season as the starting QB after leading the team in passing and rushing last season. His completion percentage left something to be desired (57.6%) but, his effectiveness as a runner is unquestioned (5.5 YPC, 1,012 yards). The Wildcats took a running back by committee approach to the ground game last year and everybody but Charles Jones (596 yards 2 TD) returns. Three of the top four receivers are back and the offensive line has four starters back too. Last year, they averaged 32.2 PPG and they should easily match that number this year.

On defense there are a couple of key losses as DE Derek Willis (3rd round pick Bengals), LBs Elijah Lee (7th round pick Vikings) and Charmeachealle Moore, and S Dante Barnett depart. That said, the defensive line returns everyone but Willis and the secondary has everyone outside of Barnett back. Despite the losses, Snyder always has a solid defense, and I’d expect more of the same this year.

The schedule doesn’t feature a stretch as rough as Texas’ but it does have the Wildcats facing Texas (away), TCU (home) and Oklahoma (home) in consecutive weeks to start October. That stretch will be tough, but a veteran offense should be able to pull out a win or two and get this team back to nine wins. Over 8 wins.

Bowl Teams

Baylor Bears

At this point, you should be well aware of the turmoil surrounding the Baylor program. The Bears are trying to change the culture that led to all of the off-field issues and the man they’ve tapped to do so is former Temple coach Matt Rhule. Rhule worked magic at Temple getting the program to back-to-back 10 wins seasons and bowl games for the first time in school history. He’ll hope to bring his tough, defensive minded approach to this Baylor team while keeping players out of trouble off the field.

Rhule will have good talent to work with as he brought in a solid recruiting class (39th nationally, 5th Big 12) and some good returnees on the roster. Sophomore QB Zach Smith finished the season as the starter after Seth Russell got hurt against Oklahoma in November and he’ll battle Arizona transfer Anu Solomon for the starting job. Top running back Terrence Williams (1,048 yards 11 TD) and No. 3 rusher JaMycal Hasty (623 yards 3 TD) are back, but the top two receivers in KD Cannon and Ishmael Zamora are gone. The offensive line loses two starters and the offense will likely be more pro-style under Rhule. That could mean a dip in the numbers, but the unit should still be solid.

Defense has been a problem the last two seasons for the Bears as they allowed 28+ in both 2015 and ’16. New coordinator Phil Snow helped Rhule put together some of the best defenses in the country in terms of points allowed over the last few years at Temple. He inherits a group that allowed over 200 yards per game rushing but was pretty solid against the pass (54.9%). The defensive line has all four starters back, with two linebackers, but only one starter is back in the secondary. This unit should improve under the tutelage of Rhule and Snow, but the secondary could be an issue early.

Baylor faces K-State, OK State, and TCU on the road with home games against Oklahoma and Texas. The Bears have enough in terms of returning talent to make me believe they can beat the number. Over 7.5 wins.

Rebuilding

Texas Tech Red Raiders

The Red Raiders have been a roller-coaster under Kliff Kingsbury going 8-5, 4-8, 7-6, and 5-7 since he took the reigns in 2013. Judging by the trend, you might expect them to bounce back to a bowl game, but it could be tough to do this year with how the schedule lays out.

Prolific QB Patrick Mahomes departed for the NFL (1st round Kansas City), but Nic Shimonek performed well in limited action last year (464 yards 6 TD 1 INT) and the offense is QB friendly, so Shimonek should do well. But, it’ll be hard to surpass Mahomes’ 5,000+ yard season. The running game wasn’t particularly effective as the Red Raiders averaged just 104 yards per game on the ground. While both running backs are back, the offensive line loses two starters and wasn’t particularly effective last year, so the run game is a question mark. Three of the top four receivers return however, and TTU hasn’t averaged less than 30 PPG in Kingsbury’s four seasons. This unit will still put up points.

The question is whether the defense will finally begin to stop opponents. TTU has allowed opponents to average 40 points or more in each of the last three seasons. They were particularly bad against the run, allowing 238.6 YPG (5.7 YPC) and lose three starters along the defensive line. There are a few transfers that could help the unit improve like the Hill brothers (Kolin and Kaleb), but it’s still a question mark. Two starting linebackers and three members of the secondary return, so the numbers should, in theory improve. But, after three straight years allowing 40+ points, it’s a guess as to how much.

The schedule is tough as both Arizona State (home) and Houston (away) come calling in the out of conference. Then they face Oklahoma and Texas on the road with OK State, K-State and TCU at home. The loss of Mahomes and a younger defensive line has me looking at the under at five wins. Under 5.5 wins.

West Virginia Mountaineers

Dana Holgorsen’s squad has improved their win total in each of the last three years going 7-6, 8-5 and 10-3. This season looks like a more difficult coaching job however, because the Mountaineers have just eight starters back from last year. This season will almost certainly be a step back from 10 wins, it’s just a matter of how far.

The offense gets a big helping hand from the addition of Florida transfer QB Will Grier, who should ease the transition from Skyler Howard. Grier was great in his first five games at Florida (65.8% 1,204 yards 10 TD 3 INT) before he got suspended for a positive PED test. Grier will have both Justin Crawford (1,184 yards 4 TD) and Kennedy McKoy (472 yards 4 TD) back at running back, but the losses are heavy along the offensive line with three starters departing. The Mountaineers also lose top receivers Shelton Gibson and Daikiel Shorts, so the passing game could take a little while to kick into high gear with a new QB and new receivers. Still, the numbers (31.2 PPG 485 YPG) should be similar.

The defense is hit hard by departures after a year in which they allowed just 24 PPG. All three defensive linemen (they run a 3-4), LB Justin Arndt, and the entire secondary depart, leaving just three starters back from last year’s unit. They do get safety Dravon Askew-Henry back after he missed all of last season, which should help the secondary, but still there’s a lot of new faces and likely a step back from this group this year.

The Mountaineers open with a tough game in Landover, MD against Virginia Tech and then in-conference they draw TCU, Baylor, Kansas State and Oklahoma all on the road with home games against OK State and Texas. It’s a rough slate to navigate with an inexperienced group especially since they have a bye in Week 2 and then play 11 straight games, which is why I’m taking the under. Under 7 wins.

Iowa State Cyclones

The Cylcones have had four straight seasons of three or fewer wins. Matt Campbell’s first year saw the Cyclones be much more competitive, with four losses coming by a touchdown or less. The problem is, last year’s team was more experienced and this season, they will be underdogs in four of their six home games.

Junior QB Jacob Park returns after taking over for Joel Lanning at the tail end of last season (Lanning is moving to LB) and will get the chance to start for the full season this year. He’ll have the benefit of the top three running backs and top two receivers returning, but the offensive line is a huge question mark as four starters depart from last year’s group. Campbell was very good in putting together offensive lines while at Toledo and he does get Jake Campos back from injury, while adding Michigan transfer David Dawson. Still, this unit needs to prove it can live up to and surpass last year’s 163 YPG (4.3 YPC). However, thanks to the skill position talent returning, they should experience a slight bump in their averages from last year.

On defense, coordinator Jon Heacock has just one starter back on the defensive line but the rest of the unit should be solid. The secondary brings back star safety Kamari Cotton-Moya and LB Willie Harvey (3rd team Big 12) returns as the leading tackler (78 tackles 4.5 TFL 3 sacks). With six starters back, the numbers should improve from last year’s 31.3 PPG and 452.9 YPG they allowed.

The rivalry game with Iowa will be played at home in Ames, and they do get Texas, TCU and OK State at home as well. Road games come against Oklahoma and Kansas State and while the Cyclones should be improved, it’s tough to see six wins, which is what would be required to hit the over. Under 5.5 wins.

Kansas Jayhawks- 2-10

The Jayhawks last winning season was in 2008 (8-5) and the last time they won more than three games was the following year in 2009. That should give you an idea of the level of futility this program has experienced in the last eight years. Entering the third year of David Beaty’s regime, Kansas seems to be making incremental improvements and could once again improve their win total.

Last year, the Jayhawks started three different QBs and the passing game averaged 240.4 YPG. Two of those QBs are gone, but sophomore Carter Stanley returns to compete with Washington State transfer Peyton Bender. The Jayhawks do lose top rusher Ke’aun Kinner, but the two backs behind him return along with an offensive line that has four starters back and adds an Alabama transfer in Charles Baldwin. The receiving corps returns its top two guys and the combination of this experience with the addition of OC Doug Meachem and his new “Air Raid” system points towards improvement on last year’s 20.2 PPG.

The defense is a little more suspect with four defensive backs departing (they run a 4-2-5), one of the two LBs and DE Damani Mosby (25 tackles 6 TFL). This was one of the worst units in the country in PPG allowed at 37.3, and Beaty’s started to get better recruits to believe that this unit will improve.

Despite the improving recruiting and experience, Kansas is still at the bottom of the conference. They should pick up a couple of wins early and could surprise in the conference, but I’m not confident in them getting more than three wins. Push 3 wins.

The move was announced by Google.org, the organization’s philanthropic arm. The commitment involves studying the economic consequences that were precipitated largely by Google’s parent company, Alphabet.

“[We] recognize that the way we work is changing, and we want to make sure that as many people as possible can make the most of the new jobs, industries and opportunities that are emerging—some of which we couldn’t have imagined just a few years ago,” said Google.org President Jacquelline Fuller, in a blog post unveiling the campaign.

The money being set aside for Google.org’s effort will go to groups like Code for America and Social Finance, a nonprofit based in the U.S. that will study the cost effectiveness and success of youth-training programs.

Google.org has also set aside money from the $50 million fund for “improving the job quality for low-wage workers,” Fuller said. One of the grantees is the National Domestic Workers Alliance, which seeks to alleviate the financial burden associated with not being able to work due to injury or similar reasons. Google.org said it would help the alliance “market and translate the service.”

The $50 million fund will also include $2 million dedicated to researching the “future of work,” which includes “ways to better anticipate and understand what the world’s fast-changing workforce will need in the years to come and how technology can help produce positive outcomes,” Google.org said.

But Fuller’s announcement did not address the specific technological advances that have already been displacing workers — such as automation and artificial intelligence, which Google has been ardently pioneering and supporting.

Google.org did, however, acknowledge the consequences of those technological progressions.

“More than a third of jobs are likely to require skills that are uncommon in today’s workforce,” the company said.

Zoya the Amur tiger was the only surviving cub of a litter of five at the Philadelphia Zoo. Her mother rejected her and she was hand fed by keepers. The cub was moved to a new family at the Oklahoma City Zoo so she hopefully would nurse from a sub species of tiger. Lola a Sumaturan tiger gave birth there to a litter of three male cubs of her own the day before Zoya was born.

“This is only the second time that we ever know this to happen so it’s all new to all of us,” said Eddie Witte curator of conevours Oklahoma city zoo.

He says Zoya is getting along with her new family, nursing, gaining weight and getting along with her brothers.

“Every thing is looking right where it should be, so they are starting to be active, they are starting to play a little bit together. Probably in the next week or two mom may be bringing some meat in there and they may start trying to eat,” said Witte.

Witte says Zoya is all ready turning out to be a handful for mom.

“She is the most active cub of all of them. She has gone places where mom had to go pick her up and drop her off with the boys,” said Witte.

CBS Local — There is endless amounts of money spent on sleep aids, mattresses, pillows and blankets with the goal of improving quality of sleep. But, according to a new study, the best way to get a good night’s sleep is having a purpose in life.

Researchers from Northwestern University surveyed more than 800 people about their life’s purpose and their quality of sleep. They found that those who self-reported having a purpose in life were 63 percent less likely to have sleep apnea, with better sleep quality.

“Helping people cultivate a purpose in life could be an effective drug-free strategy to improve sleep quality, particularly for a population that is facing more insomnia,” said senior author Jason Ong, via Northwestern. “Purpose in life is something that can be cultivated and enhanced through mindfulness therapies.”

Authors of the study say that the next step would be to use therapy rather than prescription drugs to help those who suffer from insomnia or sleep apnea.

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — “It’s sort of a weekend warrior thing in reverse” says Weezer guitarist Brian Bell about the band’s summer of festival shows across the country.

They call them “one offs,” flying from the home hub of Los Angeles to Boston, or Alabama, or Delaware – whichever scenic stage calls their name.

The festival font has gotten larger and the set time a little later in recent years for Weezer. It’s a side effect of having really good new material to pair with their legacy of two decades of genre-shaping music. Last year’s “White Album” adds nicely too that arsenal, as does this year’s infectious “Feels Like Summer”.

During the week, the day job is recording the new record.

“He’s very humble” says Bell of band leader Rivers Cuomo as they work on their “White Album” follow-up. “I congratulate him for these new songs. I’m like, man I don’t know where you come up with these ideas.”

The relationship seems strong between Brian and Rivers as Bell meticulously describes their process – working through demos, bringing in counter-lines and hooks, and finding offbeat ways to fall between the cracks of Cuomo’s writing.

“He plays it down, but the guy is a complete maniac when it comes to making music, just a genius at it” exclaims Bell. “It never ceases to amaze me and it sounds so fresh. I’m so excited by the new stuff.”

When asked about the tone and texture of the new album though, Bell was more mysterious.

“I don’t know if I’m at liberty to say yet” he answers coyly. “All I can is that “Feels Like Summer’, is a good barometer.”

Another relationship for Bell that he’s much more loose-lipped about is The Relationship.

The Relationship is the band that Bell has dabbled with for about a decade. It’s one that he started with one of his first California friends. They record and release music “between the cracks” of the Weezer work schedule.

“Through my schedule it hasn’t been like a full time thing. I hate to call it a side project but that’s what it’s sort of been” explains Bell. “In a way that is a good thing because you have time to evaluate what you’re doing. There’s no reason to put anything out that’s not ready.”

“We have two records in the span of ten years but, they’re quality” he laughs.

That second record is called Clara Obscura and is packed with pop anthems, sounding like sunshine with a sixties sensibility. It’s a tight, fun album that already has Bell excited to work on the next one.

“Basically it’s me trying to encapture an emotion that I’m feeling while I’m writing the song” he says. “Which sounds esoteric but that really I think is the heart of what’s happening.”

PHILADELPHIA (CNN) — Heini Zachariassen never quite understood wine.

He would go to the supermarket to pick out a bottle, but was often at a loss when confronted with the inevitable “wall of wine.”

It bothered him — so he set out to build an app that catalogs, organizes and ranks millions of bottles.

“We had a problem that needed solving: I want to drink better wine but I don’t know [anything] about wine,” said Zachariassen.

Seven years and 25 million downloads later, the Vivino app that Zachariassen created is used by a community of casual drinkers who have reviewed and rated nearly 12 million bottles of wine.

Users snap a photo of a wine label with their phone, and the app will return user ratings, the average retail price, tasting notes and recommended food pairings. It also works on restaurant wine lists.

To date, Vivino users have scanned nearly 425 million labels and given 72 million ratings.

“We really wanted to focus on the average, normal wine drinker,” said Zachariassen. “Just people that love wine but don’t necessarily want to make it a hobby.”

Didn’t like feeling ‘stupid’

The 45-year-old entrepreneur grew up in the tiny Faroe Islands, which is located in the North Atlantic between Iceland and Norway, at a time when alcohol was prohibited. Moving to Copenhagen as a young adult led to some serious wine culture shock.

“I’m used to being smart, and when I felt stupid I did not like that,” he joked. “That could be a bit of a driver for this [app].”

Zachariassen launched Vivino in 2011, but it took two years for its database to grow big enough to create a “meaningful” product. In 2016, the startup secured $25 million in funding led by Moet Hennessy CEO Christophe Navarre.

Wine lovers have other app options — Delectable, for example, has more than a million users who have contributed roughly 5 million reviews. There are apps focused on food pairings (HelloVino) and comprehensive price comparisons (WineSearcher).

But Zachariassen isn’t just helping users pick a good bottle of wine — he’s selling it to them, too.

Ripe for disruption?

Wine worth over $40 million has been sold through Vivino, which recently launched a marketplace that makes recommendations to users based on which wines they’ve rated highly.

“Wine is a $300 billion industry and if you look at the online part of wine, e-commerce, it’s still very, very small,” said Zachariassen.

In 2016, just under 4% of U.S. wine sales ($2.3 billion) were shipped directly from producers to consumers, according to a report by ShipCompliant and Wines Vines Analytics. The rest was sold in “offline” establishments including grocery stores and restaurants.

Zachariassen believes wine retail can be disrupted in the same way that Amazon changed how consumers buy books.

“Suddenly it’s better to buy it at home than in the store, and that shift is going to happen in wine too,” he said. “This data has never been available before; now it is, so that’s going to change.”

BEDFORD, Pa. (AP) — A Pennsylvania woman has pleaded guilty to shooting her father to death while he was sleeping.

The Bedford County District Attorney says 50-year-old Christy Zelanko pleaded guilty Monday to third-degree murder.

Police tell WJAC-TV that Zelanko shot her 68-year-old father, James Zelanko, in the chest five times while he slept in his Broadtop Township home in June 2015.

Investigators say Christy Zelanko had spoken with her mother about her father’s physical and mental abuse toward her mother earlier that day.

Zelanko faces up to 40 years in prison for the killing.

“We wanted to work with PAL because they didn’t have any AED devices. AED devices are the only tool that can save somebody who is in cardiac arrest,” said Darren Sudman.

Sudman is the co-founder of Simon’s Fund, an organization he named after his infant son who died nearly 13 years ago.

“Detecting the heart condition before it causes cardiac arrest is the best way to go about this, but we also know no test is fool-proof. There needs to be a back up plan. That’s where the AED comes in,” said Sudman.

Sudman says after receiving a donation from the Eagles and the NFL, which they matched, they were able to give PAL 18 AEDs.

Officer Joseph Ellerbry who’s been a part of PAL for the last 18 years, says it’s very important they have one of the kits at every center.

“It gives us a chance to help these kids survive,” said Ellerbry.

This donation will protect more than 18,000 children and 200 staff and volunteers annually.

Researchers studied the effect of household income dynamics on health and happiness, and sifted through 15 years of data on heterosexual married couples between 18 and 32 years old. They found that men had worse psychological and health scores when they contributed more than their partners rather than when the contributions were equal.

“Our study contributes to a growing body of research that demonstrates the ways in which gendered expectations are harmful for men too,” lead author Christin Munsch said via Time. “Men are expected to be breadwinners, yet providing for one’s family with little or no help has negative repercussions.”

One hypothesis that Munsch has is that men feel more pressure to simply make money, which may lead to taking jobs they don’t necessarily want.

“Men may be more likely to climb the corporate ladder and make more money because they feel like that’s their role,” Munsch said. “Women don’t feel that social expectation, so I think they’re more likely to only go after jobs they really want.”

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Former Reading Mayor Vaughn Spencer will appear in a Philadelphia courtroom Tuesday afternoon to face federal corruption charges.

Spencer was indicted last week, along with Allentown Mayor Ed Pawlowski and three alleged co-conspirators.

Spencer is charged with bribery and fraud for allegedly taking part in pay-to-play schemes.

Centenary University, located in Hackettstown, New Jersey, plans to build the blue turf field to celebrate their school’s colors allowing for an on-campus home-field. They currently do not have a home field on their campus.

“This facility will function as a hub for baseball in the region,” Centenary president David Haney said via DailyRecord.com. “This will raise Centenary’s visibility while boosting the local economy and providing a facility that can be used by many organizations in the community. It is an exciting opportunity that will benefit our students, faculty and staff, as well as individuals, baseball teams, and businesses throughout the region.”

“It’s going to take something that’s a huge disadvantage for us and make it a great advantage,” head coach Scott Kushner said. “The big thing too is this will be something the whole community can use, not just the baseball team.”

Boise State’s football is known for their popular blue turf field, but this would be baseball’s first.

CBS Local — Eleven children died from heatstroke in overheated cars in July, making it the deadliest month for child hot-car deaths in almost a decade.

July is normally the deadliest month for children in hot cars, and the highest death toll was 16 in 1999, meterologist Jan Null of Golden Gate Weather Services told USA Today.

The July death toll last reached 11 in 2008.

About 37 children die while trapped in overheated vehicles every year in the U.S., and at least 729 have died in hot-car incidents since 1998, Null said. In 2017, 29 children have already died.

“The warmer months are the biggest variable, but in summer months people’s routines are changed, so that could be a contributor,” Null said.

But these incidents do not occur exclusively during the summer months. Overheated vehicle deaths have even happened in colder months like December and January.

“It does not have to be an extremely hot day for these incidents to happen,” Null said.

Cars can become overheated when direct sunlight heats a vehicle’s interior. Temperatures in vehicles can climb as high as 120 or 130 degrees when the outside temperature is only in the 80s.

The human body’s natural cooling methods, including sweating, start shutting down once a person’s core body temperature reaches 104 degrees. Death occurs when that temperature reaches 107 degrees.

The death toll of children perishing inside hot vehicles has soared since the mid-1990s, Null said.

The rise can be at least partially attributed to the requirement for children to sit in back seats after juvenile deaths from air bags peaked, as children are more easily forgotten in the back seat than they are in the passenger seat.

The last two children who died in hot cars are 7-month-old Zane Endress and 1-year-old Josiah Riggins, both of Arizona, who died within a day of each other last week.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — A dozen inmates escaped from an Alabama jail by using peanut butter to change the numbers above a door and trick a new employee into opening another door that led outside, a sheriff said Monday.

The inmates changed the number above a cell to the number that identified the door leading outside the jail. So when an inmate asked a young, inexperienced jailer to let him into his cell, the jailer was fooled into opening the outside door instead.

The group then fled, throwing off their orange uniforms and using blankets to climb over a fence topped with razor wire on Sunday evening.

“It may sound crazy, but these people are crazy like a fox,” Walker County Sheriff James Underwood said at a news conference in Jasper.

Inmates “scheme all the time to con us and our employees at the jail,” Underwood added. “You have to stay on your toes. This is one time we slipped up. I’m not going to make any excuses.”

The sheriff said the inmates “went off in every direction,” but all but one were captured within eight hours, and the sheriff said he hoped the last prisoner would be back in custody by the end of the day Monday.

The 11 were arrested without violence, and the only person seriously hurt was an inmate who sliced his thumb climbing over the fence, the sheriff said.

The fugitives were between 18 and 30, facing charges ranging from disorderly conduct to attempted murder.

A manhunt continued for the last fugitive, Bradley Andrew Kilpatrick, 24, of Cordova, who had been jailed on charges of possessing marijuana and drug paraphernalia. That search was getting some airborne help from a state helicopter.

Underwood estimated that the inmates had cleared the barbed wire fence in less than 10 minutes.

“They took advantage of a young fellow that hadn’t been here very long” and who had to monitor 150 inmates at a time, the sheriff said. They apparently saved peanut butter from food regularly served at the jail.

“They love peanut butter sandwiches,” the sheriff said.

Earlier this year, the research team at Facebook Artificial Intelligence Research built a “chatbot” that was supposed to learn how to negotiate by observing and imitating human trading and bartering practices.

But when the researchers pit two of the AI programs, nicknamed Alice and Bob, against each other to trade, the bots began to engage in their own form of communication.

Their conversation “led to divergence from human language as the agents developed their own language for negotiating,” the researchers said.

The researchers tasked the robots with trading hats, balls and books, by determining the value of each object and bartering them with each other.

However, since Facebook’s researchers provided no incentive for trading in English, the programs immediately created their own terms for cutting deals.

“There was no reward to sticking to English language,” Facebook researcher Dhruv Batra told FastCo. “Agents will drift off understandable language and invent codewords for themselves. Like if I say ‘the’ five times, you interpret that to mean I want five copies of this item. This isn’t so different from the way communities of humans create shorthands.”

When the bots communicated with humans, most people were not aware that they were speaking to an AI instead of an actual person, the researchers said.

After shutting down the robot conversation, Facebook said the AI project marked important progress toward “creating chatbots that can reason, converse, and negotiate, all key steps in building a personalized digital assistant.”

But the researchers also said it is impossible for humans to comprehend the AI language and translate it into English.

“It’s important to remember, there aren’t bilingual speakers of AI and human languages,” Batra said.

MILWAUKEE (CBS/AP) — The fan Gov. Chris Christie confronted during a Chicago Cubs-Milwaukee Brewers game has challenged the New Jersey governor to a sanctioned fight.

Christie was caught on video getting in the face of Cubs fan Brad Joseph at Miller Park in Milwaukee on Sunday.

“You’re a big shot,” Christie says before walking down the stairs.

Christie told CNN that he confronted Joseph because he said “some really lousy, awful stuff” with a lot of children around.

“When somebody swears at you publicly and says some really awful things with a lot of children sitting around and my own son with me, I took it the first time he said it and yelled it from about 15 yards. And then I came back after having ignored him the first time and he went in for seconds,” Christie said. “Well, if you go in for seconds, I’ve always said this whether it’s been at my town meetings, or any place else, if you give it, you’re going to get it back. And I think that was a very mellow reaction from a New Jersey governor to just say, ‘You’re a real big shot.’ Most of these folks think they can say anything they want.”

In a Facebook post, Joseph, who says he voted for President Donald Trump, said that a combat sports promotion has agreed to put on a sanctioned fight between himself and Christie.

“If Chris Christie wants to fight fair, Tuff ‘n’ Uff, the premier amateur mixed martial arts group, has already agreed to put on an event sanctioned by the Nevada Athletic Commission. I’ll agree to compete under any standard rules you want, whether it’s MMA, boxing, freestyle, folkstyle, or Greco-Roman wrestling. Just let me know if you still want to make this physical. You won’t even have to cut any weight. I doubt you’ll agree to it, but McGregor-Mayweather surprised us all,” Joseph posted.

Joseph added that he does regret telling Christe that he “sucked,” but doesn’t regret calling him a hypocrite.

“I’m not proud of my behavior today and I regret shouting ‘you suck!’ at Christie. So Chris, if you’re reading this, I’m sorry. I didn’t have much time to think of anything to say, and I wanted to express my displeasure with you. I could have done better than ‘you suck,’” Joseph wrote. “What I do not regret is calling Chris Christie a hypocrite. This is a man who made a career out of demonizing public corruption only to become exactly what he denounced.”

Christie was in Milwaukee this weekend to watch the Brewers and Cubs, and was at Friday night’s series opener. His son, Andrew, works in the Brewers’ baseball operations department.

Lane Johnson, the Eagles’ starting right tackle, has to go against those guys in practice every day. Johnson says Brandon Graham makes him better, every knows about Fletcher Cox, new Eagle Tim Jernigan is “very slippery inside,” and a former Patriots defensive end Chris Long is a “savvy veteran.”

But first-round pick Derek Barnett received the highest praise from Johnson.

“And Barnett man, I mean he’s probably got the most bend on the team,” Johnson told the 94WIP Midday Show after Tuesday’s practice. “You talk about the guys like the Von Miller’s, the Khalil Mack’s that can really get the edge. One good thing about him is, he works hard. So I’m very excited about what we have.

“He’s very blessed with the bend. There’s a whole lot of guys who can’t bend like him, so he’s very fortunate from that standpoint. So if the tackle isn’t on his technique, he’s gonna get beat. So as he progresses, as he gets older, he’s gonna get stronger and develop there. He’s only, what, 20, 21 years old? So, he’s got a very bright future ahead of him.”

Barnett, 21, was the Eagles’ 14th overall pick. He’s expected to see significant playing time in year one.
