(CBS) — Police in Montgomery County are searching for a man accused of sexually assaulting a jogger.

The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office says a 19-year-old woman was sexually assaulted at gunpoint while running in Norristown Farm Park on Tuesday around 10:50 a.m.

The victim called 911 and she was transported to Einstein Medical Center.

The search for the suspect in the park by West Norriton Police, East Norriton Police and Montgomery County Detectives caused Norristown State Hospital to be placed on lockdown. The lockdown has since been lifted.

Sections of Norristown Farm Park have been roped off and closed as the investigation remains ongoing.

People familiar with the area expressed shock over the incident.

“A little nervous to go back out there,” said Sue Vaughn. “I’m going to share it with my office co-workers and let them know. Hopefully, we’ll buddy up and not walk alone.”

The suspect is described as as black man wearing a black mask, or a dark-hooded sweatshirt, and armed with a handgun.

Detectives are asking anyone who may have witnessed this suspect entering or exiting the park to call East Norriton Police at 610-272-0748, West Norriton Police at 610-630-1701 or Montgomery County Detectives at 610-278-3368.

According to NorthJersey.com, the house on 44 Pleasant Ave. that was designed by architect Dudley S. Van Antwerp is going for $10 or less, but the person who buys it must move it to a location a quarter-mile away.

In June, the Montclair Planning Board approved an eight-lot subdivision on the property, but the board said the home must be sold and relocated in an effort to save it, NorthJersey.com reports.

There is no word on who will replace McMonagle though Cosby’s publicist, Andrew Wyatt, says “I am still vetting attorneys on am short list,” adding attorney Angela Agrusa is still on the team.

McMonagle’s request to withdraw still needs the OK from Montgomery County Judge Stephen O’Neill, who has scheduled a hearing on Aug. 22.

BUCKS COUNTY (CBS) — Two weeks ago, the search for four missing men in Bucks County came to end on a Solebury farm.

Search crews discovered the men’s bodies in a common grave, and charges were filed against two cousins.

KYW’s Jim Melwert sat down with Bucks County district attorney Matt Weintraub for an in-depth, one-on-one interview about the chain of events that captivated the nation.

DA: Human Remains Found In Search Of 4 Missing Pennsylvania Men

Not long after the four men were reported missing, the search centered on a 90-acre farm in Solebury Township. Weintraub says cadaver dogs hit on five locations on the property, but as the hours and days ticked by.

“We were oh-for-four and I just remember feeling a great sense of despair, myself,” he said.

Weintraub says it seemed like hope was fading.

“The hole is being dug deeper and deeper and deeper and I’m talking 6 feet, 7 feet, 8 feet, 9 feet,” he said.

Still no sign of the bodies, with a heat index at points over 100-degrees, in dusty conditions.

“And these men and women are in there and they have to wear these Tyvek suits that are basically like greenhouses, little personal greenhouses,” he said.

Timeline Of Events In Missing Men Case In Bucks County

Dean Finocchiaro, Mark Sturgis and Tom Meo were found in the hole, but it took what his attorney’s call a confession from Cosmo Dinardo to find the remains of Jimi Patrick.

PHILADELPHIA (CNN) — Heini Zachariassen never quite understood wine.

He would go to the supermarket to pick out a bottle, but was often at a loss when confronted with the inevitable “wall of wine.”

It bothered him — so he set out to build an app that catalogs, organizes and ranks millions of bottles.

Climate Change Leading To Higher Alcohol Content In Wine?

“We had a problem that needed solving: I want to drink better wine but I don’t know [anything] about wine,” said Zachariassen.

Seven years and 25 million downloads later, the Vivino app that Zachariassen created is used by a community of casual drinkers who have reviewed and rated nearly 12 million bottles of wine.

Users snap a photo of a wine label with their phone, and the app will return user ratings, the average retail price, tasting notes and recommended food pairings. It also works on restaurant wine lists.

To date, Vivino users have scanned nearly 425 million labels and given 72 million ratings.

“We really wanted to focus on the average, normal wine drinker,” said Zachariassen. “Just people that love wine but don’t necessarily want to make it a hobby.”

Didn’t like feeling ‘stupid’

The 45-year-old entrepreneur grew up in the tiny Faroe Islands, which is located in the North Atlantic between Iceland and Norway, at a time when alcohol was prohibited. Moving to Copenhagen as a young adult led to some serious wine culture shock.

Wine, Dinosaurs Paired Together As Philly Wine Week ‘Corks’ Off

“I’m used to being smart, and when I felt stupid I did not like that,” he joked. “That could be a bit of a driver for this [app].”

Zachariassen launched Vivino in 2011, but it took two years for its database to grow big enough to create a “meaningful” product. In 2016, the startup secured $25 million in funding led by Moet Hennessy CEO Christophe Navarre.

Wine lovers have other app options — Delectable, for example, has more than a million users who have contributed roughly 5 million reviews. There are apps focused on food pairings (HelloVino) and comprehensive price comparisons (WineSearcher).

But Zachariassen isn’t just helping users pick a good bottle of wine — he’s selling it to them, too.

Ripe for disruption?

Wine worth over $40 million has been sold through Vivino, which recently launched a marketplace that makes recommendations to users based on which wines they’ve rated highly.

Here Are Some Of The ‘Most Unhealthiest’ Restaurant Meals

“Wine is a $300 billion industry and if you look at the online part of wine, e-commerce, it’s still very, very small,” said Zachariassen.

In 2016, just under 4% of U.S. wine sales ($2.3 billion) were shipped directly from producers to consumers, according to a report by ShipCompliant and Wines Vines Analytics. The rest was sold in “offline” establishments including grocery stores and restaurants.

Zachariassen believes wine retail can be disrupted in the same way that Amazon changed how consumers buy books.

“Suddenly it’s better to buy it at home than in the store, and that shift is going to happen in wine too,” he said. “This data has never been available before; now it is, so that’s going to change.”

(AP) — A dozen inmates escaped from an Alabama jail by using peanut butter to change the numbers above a door and trick a new employee into opening another door that led outside, a sheriff said Monday.

The inmates changed the number above a cell to the number that identified the door leading outside the jail. So when an inmate asked a young, inexperienced jailer to let him into his cell, the jailer was fooled into opening the outside door instead.

The group then fled, throwing off their orange uniforms and using blankets to climb over a fence topped with razor wire on Sunday evening.

US Could Face Shortage Of Pilots

“It may sound crazy, but these people are crazy like a fox,” Walker County Sheriff James Underwood said at a news conference in Jasper.

Inmates “scheme all the time to con us and our employees at the jail,” Underwood added. “You have to stay on your toes. This is one time we slipped up. I’m not going to make any excuses.”

The sheriff said the inmates “went off in every direction,” but all but one were captured within eight hours, and the sheriff said he hoped the last prisoner would be back in custody by the end of the day Monday.

The 11 were arrested without violence, and the only person seriously hurt was an inmate who sliced his thumb climbing over the fence, the sheriff said.

The fugitives were between 18 and 30, facing charges ranging from disorderly conduct to attempted murder.

A manhunt continued for the last fugitive, Bradley Andrew Kilpatrick, 24, of Cordova, who had been jailed on charges of possessing marijuana and drug paraphernalia. That search was getting some airborne help from a state helicopter.

Underwood estimated that the inmates had cleared the barbed wire fence in less than 10 minutes.

“They took advantage of a young fellow that hadn’t been here very long” and who had to monitor 150 inmates at a time, the sheriff said. They apparently saved peanut butter from food regularly served at the jail.

“They love peanut butter sandwiches,” the sheriff said.

Chris Christie confronted during a Chicago Cubs-Milwaukee Brewers game has challenged the New Jersey governor to a sanctioned fight.

Christie was caught on video getting in the face of Cubs fan Brad Joseph at Miller Park in Milwaukee on Sunday.

“You’re a big shot,” Christie says before walking down the stairs.

Christie told CNN that he confronted Joseph because he said “some really lousy, awful stuff” with a lot of children around.

“When somebody swears at you publicly and says some really awful things with a lot of children sitting around and my own son with me, I took it the first time he said it and yelled it from about 15 yards. And then I came back after having ignored him the first time and he went in for seconds,” Christie said. “Well, if you go in for seconds, I’ve always said this whether it’s been at my town meetings, or any place else, if you give it, you’re going to get it back. And I think that was a very mellow reaction from a New Jersey governor to just say, ‘You’re a real big shot.’ Most of these folks think they can say anything they want.”

In a Facebook post, Joseph, who says he voted for President Donald Trump, said that a combat sports promotion has agreed to put on a sanctioned fight between himself and Christie.

“If Chris Christie wants to fight fair, Tuff ‘n’ Uff, the premier amateur mixed martial arts group, has already agreed to put on an event sanctioned by the Nevada Athletic Commission. I’ll agree to compete under any standard rules you want, whether it’s MMA, boxing, freestyle, folkstyle, or Greco-Roman wrestling. Just let me know if you still want to make this physical. You won’t even have to cut any weight. I doubt you’ll agree to it, but McGregor-Mayweather surprised us all,” Joseph posted.

World’s Longest Pedestrian Suspension Bridge Opens In Switzerland

Joseph added that he does regret telling Christe that he “sucked,” but doesn’t regret calling him a hypocrite.

“I’m not proud of my behavior today and I regret shouting ‘you suck!’ at Christie. So Chris, if you’re reading this, I’m sorry. I didn’t have much time to think of anything to say, and I wanted to express my displeasure with you. I could have done better than ‘you suck,’” Joseph wrote. “What I do not regret is calling Chris Christie a hypocrite. This is a man who made a career out of demonizing public corruption only to become exactly what he denounced.”

Christie was in Milwaukee this weekend to watch the Brewers and Cubs, and was at Friday night’s series opener. His son, Andrew, works in the Brewers’ baseball operations department.

PHILADELPHIA (CNN) — Over the next two decades, 87 new pilots will need to be trained and ready to fly a commercial airliner every day in order to meet our insatiable demand to travel by air.

That’s one every 15 minutes.

Passenger and cargo airlines around the world are expected to buy 41,000 new airliners between 2017 and 2036. And they will need 637,000 new pilots to fly them, according to a forecast from Boeing released this week. That staggering figure is matched only by how many will leave the profession in the next decade — particularly in the U.S.

The Mediterranean Diet Doesn’t Benefit Everyone, Study Says

Retirements at U.S. airlines will start to rise precipitously starting in 2021 as the current crop of pilots turns 65, the mandated age of retirement. More than 42% of active U.S. airline pilots at the biggest carriers will retire over the next 10 years, about 22,000, according to a recent report by Cowen & Company.

In the next 20 years, airlines in North America are going to need 117,000 new pilots, Boeing estimates. And the farm team for training and recruitment in the U.S. — the military and regional carriers — are already struggling to find and keep aviators.

The coming retirements exceed the active U.S. regional airline pilots corps, which stands around 19,000.

Without enough pilots, the amount airlines can fly will be capped. And an acute shortage may wreak havoc on air travel, grounding planes and reducing air service to some cities if routes are cut or curtailed.

It’s already happening.

Last month, Horizon Air, the regional arm of Alaska Airlines, said it was canceling 6% of it schedule — more than 300 flights — from August to September because it doesn’t have the pilots. And Republic Airways filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 2016 in part because it was “grounding aircraft due to a lack of pilot resources.

Pilots and their unions contend that there is no shortage, only a perceived one, and a dearth of good-paying flying jobs that would attract new candidates. Rather than change any standards to bolster recruitment, pilots unions have pushed for higher wages for existing pilots to increase the economic attractiveness of the profession

World’s Longest Pedestrian Suspension Bridge Opens In Switzerland

And American Airlines, Delta Air Lines and United Airlines have all signed new contracts with their pilots to raise their hourly wages.

Horizon, too, says its aggressively recruiting, offering a $20,000 bonus and upped starting pay from $30 to $40 per hour. Pilots at Mesa Air Group, which offered the lowest starting wages in the industry at $22 hourly, according to Cowen, earlier in July ratified a new contract upping that to $36 per hour and offering as much as $42,100 in bonuses.

The U.S. military, too, is trying to hold on to its own highly trained pilots in uniform. The Air Force is willing to pony up to $455,000 to keep its pilots. The Department of Defense said the Air Force was short 1,555 pilots.

The regional carriers are not only fighting with other U.S. airlines to hold on to their pilots. Rapidly-expanding Middle Eastern and Asian carriers are offering huge premiums to lure well-trained aviators. Chinese airlines are offering salaries topping $300,000 for skilled aviators.

But it’s not only a question of pay, say industry experts.

After the 2009 Colgan Air crash that killed 50 outside of Buffalo, new rules on pilot training were put in place. New pilots are required to have 1,500 hours of flight time before they can earn their air transport pilots license.

That’s another 1,250 hours pilots must accumulate after getting their commercial certification.

Supporters of the rule say it has been a success and there hasn’t been a U.S. commercial airline fatality since the Colgan crash.

Harvard Law School Alumni Directory Lists Scaramucci As Deceased

However, critics contend the rule is a huge barrier to new pilots who would seek to start at regional airlines and also point out that both pilots on the Colgan flight had more than 1,500 hours of flight time.

“A diminishing number [of pilots] have been willing to commit the time and money to their education and training when the return on investment is somewhere between unpredictable and financially ruinous,” writes airline pilot and travel blogger Patrick Smith.Pilots-in-training can take loans, regularly more than $100,000, to finance training and flight time or work as low-wage flight instructor that doesn’t necessarily mirror airline operations.

And every year that goes by without joining airline ranks means one less year of seniority in an industry that won’t allow working past the age of 65. That could mean forgoing up to $500,000 in earning potential, according to an industry estimate.

Republican Senator John Thune recently submitted an amendment to the 1,500 hour rule. Pilots now only need 750 hours if they trained in the military, 1,000 if from a four year school and 1,250 from a two-year college, but the amendment would give give the FAA more flexibility to award training credit to pilots — but the move faces an uphill political battle.

Correction: The headline on an earlier version of this article incorrectly stated that a widespread pilot shortage had already begun. In addition, the figure for pilot salaries at Mesa Air Group has been updated with the most recent information.

(AP/CBS) — The former star of “Dog the Bounty Hunter” is joining a legal effort to have New Jersey’s new bail rules thrown out.

Duane “Dog” Chapman spoke Monday during a news conference at the federal court building in Trenton, where lawyers announced a wrongful death lawsuit brought by the family of a man who was fatally shot in Millville this past April.

3 Local JCPenney Stores Closing Monday

“So this hug-a-thon campaign has got to stop,” said Chapman. “It’s killing people as you can see. What we need now is for people to stand up for your rights, for your lives, for your children and grandchildren’s lives.”

Chapman says he’s supporting the family of Christian Rodgers, who was allegedly killed by Jules Black. Black had been arrested days before but released because of New Jersey’s “Bail Reform Initiative.” Black remains in custody.

The suit’s defendants include Gov. Chris Christie and state Attorney General Christopher Porrino.

It claims the gunman wasn’t detained because of bail reforms that went into effect this year and were championed by the Republican governor.

More Than Two Dozen Dogs Hit The Waves For Surfing Competition

Proponents of the reforms say they help keep defendants from being stuck in jail mainly because they can’t afford bail.

This is at least the second lawsuit from the bail industry trying to overturn the changes.

Attorney Daniel Rosenberg broke down the guideline change.

“The idea is the size of your bank account doesn’t determine whether or not you are released pre trial,” said Rosenberg.

He says rather than someone’s pre-trail released depending if they can afford bail, it is now determined in the state by two scales.

“One of them is your failure to appear score. The other is the risk that you will commit another offense. And you could have a one and a one and that suggests that you are likely to be released. A six and a six would mean you are likely to be detained.”

Since January, a new report shows that the number of pre-trial incarcerations has dropped over 20% statewide.

Figures that have overall been deemed a bipartisan success, but not for everyone.

“I want them to know what kind of success they have created yes. You guys successfully let this guy out when he shouldn’t have been he should have been,” said Rodgers’ mom.

So far, there is no comment from the governor on the lawsuit.

The moves comes the same day President Donald Trump’s new White House Chief of Staff, Gen. John Kelly, was sworn in.

“I want to congratulate you on having done a fantastic job, general, and we look forward, if it’s possible, to an even better job,” said Trump. Kelly was previously Homeland Security secretary.

Former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer and former White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus stepped down after Scaramucci came on board.

The White House said in a statement that Scaramucci “felt it was best” to give Kelly a “clean slate and the ability to build his own team.”

A White House official said Kelly wanted Scaramucci removed from his new role as the communications director because he did not think he was disciplined and had burned his credibility.

White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders told reporters Monday that all White House staff will report to Kelly.

“Gen. Kelly has the full authority to operate within the White House, and all staff will report to him,” she said. When pressed further whether staffers including Jared Kushner, Ivanka Trump and Steve Bannon will all report to Kelly, Sanders said: “That includes everybody at the White House.”

Scaramucci, a colorful and controversial figure, was brought on during the latest in a long list of White House shake ups that have imbued the Trump presidency with a sense of chaos.

Scaramucci is the third White House communications director to leave the post that had been vacant since late May, when Mike Dubke left after about three months on the job. Sean Spicer, the former White House press secretary, also assumed some of the communications director role before he resigned when Scaramucci was hired July 21.

Scaramucci’s departure comes days after he unleashed a vulgar tirade against two top White House officials in a conversation with a reporter.

After Ryan Lizza, a reporter for The New Yorker and a CNN contributor, broke the news that Scaramucci was having dinner with Fox News host Sean Hannity and former top Fox News executive Bill Shine, Scaramucci called to try to force Lizza to give up his source.

Scaramucci suspected that Priebus was the leaker and slammed the former chief of staff.

“Reince is a f—ing paranoid schizophrenic, a paranoiac,” he said, mimicking Priebus when he added, ”’Let me leak the f—ing thing and see if I can c–k block these people the way I c–k blocked Scaramucci for six months.'”

And in a comment that drew consternation from even some Republican lawmakers on Capitol Hill, Scaramucci slammed White House strategist Steve Bannon, a longtime Trump adviser, for what Scaramucci considered was trying to build his own brand from the White House.

“I’m not Steve Bannon, I’m not trying to suck my own c–k,” he said.

Trump thought that Scaramucci’s comments to The New Yorker were inappropriate, Sanders told reporters on Monday.

“The president certainly felt that Anthony’s comments were inappropriate for someone in that position and he didn’t want to burden Gen. Kelly also with that line of succession,” she said during the White House news briefing.

Before the New Yorker interview published, Scaramucci called into CNN’s “New Day” and all but blamed Priebus for leaking information. The remarkable interview with CNN’s Chris Cuomo — which came after Scaramucci included Priebus’ name in a tweet about leaking — put the developing power struggle inside the West Wing on full display, with Scaramucci at one point warning that “the fish stinks from the head down.”

“When I put out a tweet and I put Reince’s name in a tweet, they’re all making the assumption that it’s him because journalists know who the leakers are,” Scaramucci said on “New Day.” “So if Reince wants to explain he’s not a leaker, let him do that. But let me tell you about myself. I’m a straight shooter and I’ll go right to the heart of the matter.”

Despite not always being a Trump supporter, Scaramucci entered the White House as someone with a long relationship with Trump, something others in the communications shop did not enjoy. In interviews during his brief tenure as a White House staffer, Scaramucci talked up his knowledge of Trump’s needs and his connection to the president.

Scaramucci, who advised Trump during the 2016 campaign, had hoped for an earlier post in the administration and began selling his hedge fund — SkyBridge Capital — in order to win a role. But that role was delayed for Scaramucci, who blamed Priebus and other establishment Republicans in the administration for blocking his entry.

Before becoming communications director, Scaramucci was named as vice president and chief strategy officer at the Export-Import Bank.

When asked if Scaramucci is returning to the Ex-Im bank, a spokesperson for the bank said: “We are checking into this matter.”

Asked the same question, Sanders said: “He does not have a role at this time in the Trump administration,” Sanders said, later specifying that Scaramucci doesn’t currently have a position at Ex-Im.

But what really warmed Trump to Scaramucci was his months of being a prominent TV surrogate for the President, regularly clashing with television hosts and casting the Trump administration as a well-oiled machine.

Scaramucci, despite casting himself as a political outsider in the vein of Trump, was national finance co-chair of 2012 GOP nominee Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign and later fundraiser for Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush in the 2016 GOP primaries before jumping to Trump’s campaign.

The rooftopper, who only goes by the name Carson King, posted the nearly seven-minute video of him dangling his feet roughly 500-feet above the city of Brotherly Love.

King says he enjoys documenting history and climbed City Hall while it was under construction sometime this year.

“I believe that this is the only video you will ever see of someone doing this and I went up by myself.” he writes in a YouTube post of the video under the account Exploring with Carson. “I travel to document and photograph abandoned buildings and structures….I do lots of abandoned places to document the history but I cannot say the locations.”

Video shows King climbing a ladder, glimpses of the Philadelphia sky line and then more climbing. He eventually gets to the top where the iconic hollow bronze statue of William Penn was getting its once-in-a-decade spa treatment.

From 500 Feet Up, Billy Penn Statue Gets 10-Year Spa Treatment

Somehow King was able to make it all the way to the top of one of the largest municipal building in the United States without any trouble.

“Nobody was in sight and there were no signs posting saying ‘do not enter’ or ‘no trespassing’ which was very surprising,” he says.

King says nothing was vandalized during his excursion.

“We don’t intend any harm and we don’t mess with anything in the places we go. We go to take pictures and nothing more. The public has a negative view on what we do and I want to change that,” King tells CBS3.

As for where he’ll climb next?

King says, “I cannot say the locations.”

City officials say they have seen the video.

“We’re extremely concerned by this video,” city spokesperson Mike Dunn tells CBS Philly. “What this person did was dangerous and illegal. The scaffolding is now down, but Philadelphians should be aware of the extreme risk they pose to their personal safety if they engage in activity like this.”

In response to city officials, King says they know the risks and the video isn’t meant to encourage others.

“The video isn’t meant to encourage other people to do the same as the officials said. We know what we are doing and we know the risks. You could even call us professionals. I strongly suggest a normal citizen doesn’t try this,” said King.

King has explored a 200 year old Victorian mansion, an abandoned medical college and even the Olympic stadium from the 2004 Athens Olympic games.

Their son, Leo Murray Chaplow, was born July 14.

Leo is the couple’s first biological child, but they are no strangers to parenting: Reese and Chaplow adopted Chaplow’s niece and nephew in 2011.

Both Leo and Reese were in good health after the birth, the couple wrote on Facebook. They didn’t respond to a request for comment.

Reese and Chaplow have documented their parenting adventures and posted updates throughout Reese’s pregnancy on their Facebook page. They made a video announcing the pregnancy in January.

Reese, who was assigned the female gender at birth, posted a video in March explaining his decision to carry a baby as a transgender man.

“I’m OK with my body being a trans body,” he said. “I’m OK being a man who has a uterus and has the capacity and capability of carrying a baby.”

Reese told CNN in June that he had stopped taking testosterone to prepare for the pregnancy.

“We’ve been under medical supervision the entire time,” he said, “to make it as healthy and safe as possible.”

In addition to the “normal pregnancy stuff” like cravings — Reese’s was French fries from McDonald’s — the couple has had to face criticism and negativity online.

“We find that behind the shroud of anonymity, people feel pretty empowered to tell us what should happen to us, to our children, to our family,” Reese said. “The reason why you have a kid is because you want to see more love in the world, and remembering how difficult that’s going to be, it’s hard.”

But since Leo was born, the couple has received an outpouring of support on Facebook and media attention from around the world.

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Obama administration alum Valerie Jarrett has a new role in Silicon Valley.

Lyft announced on Monday the former senior adviser to President Barack Obama has joined its board.

Jarrett was one of Obama’s longest-serving advisers and his assistant for pubic engagement and intergovernmental affairs.

The company’s board now consists of nine members, including Lyft’s cofounders Logan Green and John Zimmer, Andreessen Horowitz co-founder Ben Horowitz, GM President Dan Ammann and Sean Aggarwal, an investor and the former CFO of Trulia.

Jarrett, who is the first independent board member, is the second woman on the board, joining Ann Miura-Ko, a partner at venture capital firm Floodgate.

She is also an adviser to the Obama Foundation and on the board of Ariel Investments, a money management firm in Chicago.

Lyft’s ‘Taco Mode’ Brings Riders To Closest Taco Bell

Jarrett is the latest staffer from the Obama administration to enter the ride-hailing world.

Uber hired former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder in February to investigate allegations of sexism. In 2014, Obama’s former campaign manager David Plouffe was hired by Uber to serve as senior vice president of policy and strategy. He has since left to join the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative.

Jarrett’s appointment comes as Lyft continues to grow. The company raised $600 million in funding this year and saw an increase in new customers after an Uber boycott. In a blog post on Monday, Lyft said it completed more rides this year than in all of 2016.

Uber has struggled with a series of scandals and PR crises this year, including allegations of sexual harassment, building a tool to help drivers avoid law enforcement and a leadership exodus.

In June, Uber cofounder and CEO Travis Kalanick stepped down. The company is still seeking a replacement. Last week, Hewlett Packard Enterprise CEO Meg Whitman said she wouldn’t serve as CEO following speculation.

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Philadelphia’s Streets Department will host six mobile drop-off sites throughout the city where they’ll accept items that can’t — and shouldn’t — be put out with the trash. The effort is aimed at curbing illegal dumping.

The mobile drop-off sites will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday in six Philadelphia neighborhoods, allowing residents to legally unload bulk items like furniture, tires, household appliances, and televisions.

Streets Commissioner Carlton Williams says although those items are accepted at the city’s permanent disposal and recycling centers, not everyone can get to them.

“What we want to do is make it more convenient for our residents to use the service that we provide by reaching out and going into the communities and neighborhoods where they’re challenged with these type of problems.”

Williams says the effort doesn’t just benefit residents; illegal dumping costs the city $1.4 million a year.

“This is a safe and efficient way for the city of Philadelphia to solve a problem for both the residents and our city.”

It marks the beginning of a long journey.

The more than half-a-mile stretch of Conrail railroad tracks near B Street is rife with heroin needles and debris. Makeshift shelters are hidden in corners, with mattresses and drug use materials in trees and overgrown weeds. But over the next few weeks, all of the trash, needles, shelters and more will be no more.

“We’re not going to just clean up and leave,” says Jonathon Broder, Chief Legal officer of Conrail.

Broder told press and community advocates present at a presser Monday at 2nd and Indiana that the company is putting up $90,000 worth of fencing at seven overpasses, removing trees and greener and picking up and hauling out trash along the B Street tracks. He says Conrail has made the effort on more than one occasion in the past, but this time they have a long-term strategy, which includes a partnership with the city and community groups like HACE.

“They will be physically present and we will be supporting them,” says Broder.

For the city’s part, multiple departments have been working to deal with the infamous tracks where insiders say scores of heroin users and other homeless individuals live. Many more come to the area to use drugs, evidence of their drug use, thousands of hypodermic needles and packaging is everywhere. City officials acknowledge that once the tracks are secured with fencing, they’ll need to increase police presence to keep people off the tracks and then find a place for the individuals to go.

“We are eliminating a situation that attracted drug users to the neighborhood from across the region,” says Mike DiBenardinis, City Managing Director. “We want to lift up this problem- we want to treat the people who are addicted.”

Dr. Oz Visits Conrail Railroad Tracks To Highlight Nation’s Drug Epidemic

He says the city is bringing in the Police Department, Streets Department, Licenses and Inspection, Department of Behavioral Health and the Office of Housing to do the on the ground work. There will be more police, ongoing cleanup, homeless outreach and recovery and mental health services available.

“We are here for the long haul. We are committed to this neighborhood and to the people who live here,” he says, “this is just step one in a very long journey.”

The Office of Housing and Supportive Services announced it is dedicated $750,000 to homeless outreach. It will also provide 15 housing slots for individuals with opioid addiction and 17 slots for rapid rehousing. In addition, the Department of Behavioral Health will increase recovery beds from 300 to 333 and expand facilities at halfway houses. There will also be social services support in the community and for the residents who live in the neighborhood.

“Behind the aesthetics there are people,” says City Councilwoman Maria Quinones-Sanchez, “this journey is about the people who are trapped in here and deserve safe streets.”

Community residents launched an effort called “El Barrio Nuestro,” a neighbor driven effort to reclaim the streets. The residents clean up and opened up “play streets” so that kids in the neighborhood can get free meals and snacks.

Former Fairhill resident turned community advocate Charito Morales took reporters and others on tours of the tracks. She says this effort gives hope: “It’s not today for tomorrow, but it’s going to be happening.”

While total cost of this effort is unclear at this point, city officials estimate the total investment will be in the millions of dollars.

(CBS) — Police in Feasterville-Trevose have located the woman they say left her 7-month-old baby alone in a hotel room and never came back.

According to investigators, 34-year-old Erica Avila-Lopez left her baby alone in a room at the Knights Inn Hotel in Feasterville-Trevose on Saturday afternoon.

Avila-Lopez’ s 7-month-old was found when a maid came to clean a room the next day.

The maid saw him wedged underneath a bed, authorities said.

“The baby was found in his own urine and hadn’t eaten for a while, crying,” said Bensalem Township Police Director Fred Harran.

Police Investigate Overnight Shootings In North Philadelphia

Authorities say it’s a miracle he wasn’t hurt by the fall or by ingesting the crack-cocaine and heroin through the room.

Surveillance video showed the mom leaving the room Saturday afternoon the baby wasn’t found until Sunday, nearly 24 hours later.

Late Monday, authorities announced they located Avila-Lopez. She is now in police custody at a medical facility.

“Why someone would leave a 7-month-old and in that condition is beyond me, but 31 years doing this job I stop trying to figure people out a long time ago,” said Harran.

While the 34-year-old mother is receiving undisclosed medical treatment, Bensalem Township police say this may not be the first time she has put her baby boy in danger.

Last September, when Avila-Lopez was several months pregnant with the child, she apparently led Philadelphia police on chase through the city.

Goats Hired To Landscape School’s Yard

That chase ended with two officers nearly struck and Avila Lopez shot in the hand by Philadelphia police.

“If you’re engaging in negative contact with the police and you are pregnant. There has got to be something wrong with you. Maybe at the end of the day this is the best thing that ever happened to this child,” added Harran.

DHS currently has the 7-month-old, but a relative in Florida has been contacted to take custody of the baby.

Avila-Lopez faces multiple charges, including endangering the welfare of children, recklessly endangering another person, and narcotics offenses.

If you have any information you are asked to contact Bensalem Police at (215) 633-3700.

Schmalz says the sculpture’s inspiration came a few years ago in Toronto when he passed a homeless man shrouded in a blanket, lying on a bench.

He describes the encounter as spiritual and felt Jesus’ presence and inspiration to create the model in his studio.

“This sculpture is going into cities around the world as a constant, perpetual reminder that when we see the least in our society, we should see Jesus,” Schmalz said.

Some 75 cities around the world now display a “Homeless Jesus.” Pope Francis even ordered a cast bronze copy be placed in the Vatican in front of the papal charities headquarters.

Archbishop Charles Chaput, who blessed the Philadelphia “Homeless Jesus,” says he hopes those who pass it will recognize the powerful message.

“It’s a very visual challenge for us to maybe reorder our priorities,” Chaput said, “and not just care for ourselves, but to place others and God in that central part of who we are.”

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Two leading Democrats in New Jersey visited Inspira Hospital-Elmer on Monday to discuss what’s next with healthcare reform. That, after the failed Republican ‘repeal and replace’ push.

U.S. Senator Cory Booker says ‘no doubt about it’ in New Jersey that ‘skinny repeal’ of the Affordable Care Act was unpopular.

“It’s a good win, but it’s not over yet,” Booker said. “Republicans are still trying to push plans that would strip away Medicaid expansion that we benefit from.”

He’s having a constant stream of conversations with Republicans on Capitol Hill.

“I’ve been on the phone with people like Lindsey Graham to some House members I know. We’ve got to come together,” Booker said. “That’s what the American public needs right now.”

State senate president Steve Sweeney says a straight up repeal of Obamacare would have cost the state over a billion dollars, with 500,000 people losing healthcare coverage.

Sweeney recalls plenty of instances of mixing and matching Republican and Democratic ideas.

“Look, I’ve fought with Christie. I’ve worked with Christie,” Sweeney said. “You’ll never get anything done that’s meaningful, if you don’t come together and compromise.’

Take his push for the Paid Family Leave Bill in Trenton.

“It couldn’t have passed without a Republican Senator voting for it,” Sweeney said. “We just couldn’t get it done.”

He thinks Congress needs to rediscover the lost art of compromise.

“Go back through the normal process of committee,” he said. “Listen to each side and come up with the reform that works.”

Sweeney says both Democrats and Republicans are well-aware of the current healthcare system.

“We need to ensure that Obamacare stays,” he said. “We just need to fix it.”

Carrying a basket of nachos, the New Jersey governor was caught on video confronting a Chicago Cubs fan during Sunday’s game against the Milwaukee Brewers.

The video circulating on Twitter showed Christie leaning over to nearly get in the man’s face at Miller Park, holding the order of nachos in his left hand.

“You’re a big shot,” Christie says before walking down the stairs. It was not known what caused the tiff.

Christie was loudly booed on July 18 at Citi Field in New York after snagging a foul ball during a game between the St. Louis Cardinals and Mets.

Christie was in Milwaukee this weekend to watch the Brewers and Cubs, and was at Friday night’s series opener. His son, Andrew, works in the Brewers’ baseball operations department.

On Monday, Christie appeared on Jake Tapper’s show to discuss the encounter with the fan.

“When somebody swears at you publicly and says some really awful things with a lot of children sitting around and my own son with me, I took it the first time he said it and yelled it from about 15 yards. And then I came back after having ignored him the first time and he went in for seconds. Well, if you go in for seconds, I’ve always said this whether it’s been at my town meetings, or any place else, if you give it, you’re going to get it back. And I think that was a very mellow reaction from a New Jersey governor to just say, ‘You’re a real big shot.’ Most of these folks think they can say anything they want.”

PHILADELPHIA (CNN)–For a few minutes on August 21, everyone in North America will be united in a solitary, awe-inspiring event: A total eclipse of the sun. Americans of all ages are expected to join by the millions to watch the sky grow dark in midday and then slowly brighten again.

People in all the contiguous United States will be able to see at least part of the eclipse. Portions of 14 states are in the path of totality, the brief phase of the eclipse when the moon is totally blocking the sun.

The last time anyone saw a total solar eclipse in the United States was on February 26, 1979. It has been even longer — 99 years — since a total solar eclipse crossed the country from the Pacific to the Atlantic. But it’s happening again and one thing about this eclipse will be very different than those in years past: smartphones!

Southwest Airlines Selling Seats With Great Views Of Total Solar Eclipse

In addition to professional photographers, millions of ordinary people are expected to use smartphones and digital cameras to photograph this eclipse. You’re probably already packing extra batteries.

To get some tips on photographing eclipses, CNN spoke by phone with Fred Espenak, a retired NASA astrophysicist and photographer popularly known as Mr. Eclipse.

But before we begin, remember this important safety tip: Don’t look directly at the sun except during totality. It will burn your eyes out. Really.

CNN to Mr. Eclipse: Is it really worth trying to take a picture of the eclipse with a smartphone?

Mr. Eclipse: During the partial phases, the cellphone won’t do you any good unless you can put it up to somebody’s telescope that has a solar filter on the telescope. But if you go under a shade tree, all the little patches of sunlight will be crescent shaped and that can easily be photographed with a cellphone. Anything with a bunch of little holes will project crescent images on the ground.

On his website, Espenak gives detailed tips for using a DSLR camera to photograph the eclipse. He cautions you’ll need a special solar filter and some patience — eclipses take awhile.

NASA has a cheat sheet on taking images of the eclipse with your smartphone. You do need to do some homework or you’ll end up with a fuzzy red blob. Here’s a summary of the tips:

— Buy a solar filter or use your eclipse glasses (NOT regular sunglasses) as a solar filter to cover your smartphone lens during the early part of the eclipse.

— Take the filter off during totality.

— Use a tripod to keep your camera stable.

— If you want to take pictures of the stuff going on around you during the eclipse, use a low light level setting or download a special app that lets you manually adjust exposure speed.

— Practice! Take photos just after sunset during twilight to get an idea of what the light levels will be like during totality.

— Shoot photos of the moon to learn how to manually adjust the focus on your camera. Tap the screen and hold your finger on the image of the moon to lock the focus. Then slide your finger up or down to darken or lighten the exposure.

— Get real! Camera phones were meant for selfies and such. Don’t expect amazing eclipse photos from your smartphone.

CNN: Is it worth trying to take photos from areas where you will only see a partial eclipse?

Mr. Eclipse: Sure. All you need to do is take a 10 minute coffee break near the maximum part of the eclipse. If you can only take one look, then try to time it for the period when the eclipse is at a maximum so you’ll see the largest fraction of the sun covered by the moon.

CNN: For those of us who aren’t NASA scientists, why should we get excited about this eclipse?

Mr. Eclipse: It is so incredibly dramatic, so life-changing in many instances. I’ve seen people after the end of a total eclipse with tears running down their face — tears — tears of joy and tears of being overcome with the event.

CNN: How did you first get interested in eclipses?

Mr. Eclipse: I saw my first partial eclipse in 1963. I was 11 years old at the time. Six years later, in 1970, I had just turned 18 and I had just gotten a driver’s license. The eclipse path was 600 miles south of where I lived. So, I convinced my parents to let me take the car and drive to the path in North Carolina. I had great weather. I had a small telescope with me and I even managed to get some photographs of the eclipse.

CNN: Where will you watch this eclipse from?

Mr. Eclipse: I’m planning on being in Casper, Wyoming, in the days leading up to the eclipse. But then I’m going to watch the weather and if the forecast for Casper looks good, I’ll stay there. If it’s not, I’ll be ready to drive maybe 800 miles east or west for a better location.

Traces Of Weed Killer Chemical Found In Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream

(We should note that Fred Espenak has traveled the world chasing eclipses. To honor his efforts, the United States Postal Service used Espenak’s photos on its Total Eclipse of the Sun stamp. The stamp uses special ink that reacts to the heat of touch.)

CNN: So, exactly how did you get the title Mr. Eclipse?

Mr. Eclipse: With all the predictions I was learning to do and eclipse publications I started doing and some of the lecturing I was doing, I started getting introduced as Mr. Eclipse. And then in the late 1990s I decided to set up a website and I was struggling for a name for the website and my wife suggested Mr. Eclipse. So the website became mreclipse.com and the name has stuck with me since then.

They were patients at CHOP but only met when their moms, who went to the same high school, reconnected on Facebook. Their chance meeting led to a non-profit to help every CHOP patient play.

Bronwyn Hansen, 11, and Sophia Giamo, 13, know what it’s like to be a kid stuck in the hospital. In 2014, Sophia had a dangerous bout with the flu.

“I had to get surgery and they had to put a tube through my back into the lung,” Sophia said in 2016.

A year later, Bronwyn had brain surgery to repair a malformation in her blood vessels. “It was tiring and painful,” Bronwyn said.

What kept them going? Toys from the Child Life specialists at CHOP. So Sophia and Bronwyn started CHOP DROP and donated hundreds of toys in 2016.

CBS Local — Typically the selling points for airlines are prices, routes and comfort. But Southwest Airlines is trying to seize on an opportunity provided by the universe, as it’s selling seats based on what should be an excellent view of the total solar eclipse on Aug. 21.

Traces Of Weed Killer Chemical Found In Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream

The total solar eclipse will create a few minutes of complete darkness as the moon will block the sun entirely across a specific line of the country, running from Portland, Oregon to Atlanta, Georgia. Southwest has begun advertising on their social media accounts.

These are the flights that Southwest is projecting to have the best view of the eclipse:

Southwest flight 1375 Seattle to St. Louis 9:05 a.m.

Southwest flight 1368 Portland to St. Louis 9:05 a.m.

Southwest flight 1577 Denver to St. Louis 10:20 a.m.

Southwest flight 301 Denver to Nashville 10:20 a.m.

Southwest flight 1969 Denver to Atlanta 9:50 a.m.

At the moment, Southwest hasn’t created more flights for the sole purpose of viewing the eclipse, but perhaps if there’s a market for it, they’ll find a way to make it happen.

The indictments accuse Allentown Mayor Ed Pawlowski and former Reading Mayor Vaughn Spencer, both Democrats, of taking part in a pay-to-play scheme. They are now dealing with dozens of counts of bribery and fraud charges for allegedly trading city contracts in exchange for campaign funds.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office said during a press conference that Pawlowski and Spencer “essentially put up a for sale sign” in Allentown and Reading.

“Both indictments charge the mayors with wide-ranging corruption in the cities they had promised to serve with integrity. The indictments allege that the mayors repeatedly abused the trust of the citizens of Allentown and Reading by steering contracts and other work to companies and entities in exchange for political contributions,” said acting United States Attorney Louis Lappen.

The ongoing investigation into both mayors became public in 2015 when FBI agents raided City Hall in Allentown and Reading, as well as the homes of Pawlowski and Spencer.

The indictments accuse Pawlowski and Spencer of running widespread pay-to-play schemes that benefited them personally and politically.

Lappen said Pawlowski doled out contracts to those who gave him campaign contributions and set up fundraisers.

Lappen also said Spencer bribed Reading’s City Council president to repeal an anti-corruption statute.

During a Wednesday afternoon news conference, Pawlowski said he has done nothing wrong and that he will not resign.

“I have a job to do and I will continue to do it and that includes my candidacy for re-election,” said Pawlowski.

Pawlowski said the only thing he has ever done wrong was to trust his former campaign manager Michael Fleck, who also ran Spencer’s campaign.

The criminal case stems from an investigation that began in 2013 and which led to charges against a slew of lower-ranking city officials and contractors in a pay-to-play scandal.

Five defendants were named in this indictment, including public and school officials, along with businessmen.

Part of his alleged scheme involved former Reading School District official Rebecca Acosta and an energy-saving contract for the city schools. The school district says those contracts have since been rescinded.

Eleven people have pleaded guilty in the investigation.

The video began getting attention Monday after Miami sport fisherman Mark Quartiano, also known as “Mark the Shark,” reposted the video on his Instagram page. His caption said, “FOR ONCE I MAY HAVE TO AGREE WITH @PETA.”

Vatican Turns Off Fountains As Italy Reels From Drought

As a hooked shark smacks against the water, one man in the video is heard saying, “look, it’s already almost dead.”

Since then, sports fishermen and others have been calling this a clear case of shark cruelty.

“He’s just going to take off and go full throttle knowing you have that fish on the line that is ridiculous,” said fisherman Jim Axelejun.

“Complete lack of respect for the environment and other species,” said Jay Jankowski.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission spokesman Rob Klepper said in an email Tuesday that the agency had been alerted to the video by a web tip.

The email says investigators are trying to identify the individuals in the video and where it took place.

Klepper says it wasn’t immediately clear if any violations had taken place.

Dave Bender and the crew of the Jenny Lee set out for an overnight trip on July 21.

“We trolled all afternoon and landed a 35-pound yellowfin and three throwbacks. We sent up at night for makos and swords and at about [11p.m.] the shark rod goes screaming,” said Bender, in a Facebook post.

Bender says Captain Gerrity, the Miccio family, Nick and Matt all took turns getting the shark on the boat.

Nearly 2 hours later, the massive 926-pound Mako was captured.

The catch may have even set a state record.

According to the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife, the biggest shark was caught in 1988, when Billy DeJohn reeled in an 880-pound tiger shark off Cape May.

Bender says his co-captain Kevin Gerrity deserves all the credit.

“He has waited 35 years for today’s moment. Every night offshore for the last 10 years he puts out a shark rod, and every night I tell the customers, ‘We ain’t gonna catch no mako.’ Kevin’s passion and persistence has paid off today for a fish of a lifetime. I salute you cap you deserve this fish!!!!!”
