Flatbed Truck Slams Into Building In East Mount Airy Causing Partial Collapse

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Authorities say a truck crashed into an East Mount Airy home on Monday morning causing the building to partially collapse. Surveillance cameras in the neighborhood captured the collision at the corner of Pleasant and Musgrave Streets, around 8:30 a.m.

Neighbors describe the wild scene shortly after the crash.

"I heard a real big boom. I looked out the window, truck inside of the house," a neighbor said.

A mother of five tells Eyewitness News she was home with her 37-year-old son, who is disabled, at the time of the crash.

"I was in my bedroom and my son was in his room, and I heard the bang," homeowner Sandra Garnett said. "I ran to the front before it collapsed. It hadn't collapsed yet, and I ran to the front to see what was the noise. I could see the back of the truck sticking out, so I ran downstairs and as I'm going downstairs, I'm dialing 9-1-1. I came outside and the truck was completely in the house."

Shortly afterward, part of the building collapsed.

Garnett and her son got out of the house before it collapsed.

There were no reported injuries, but neighbors say the intersection has been a problem before. A homeowner says, a few years ago, a car also crashed into the building.

"It's no stop sign right here, you know and normally they think the person that keeps on going blew the stop sign, so it's no stop sign right here," neighbor Jason Rhett said.

There is a GoFundMe page set up to help the family that lived inside the home, to donate, click here.
