Police: Young Couple Found Murdered Inside Churchville Home

CHURCHVILLE, Pa. (CBS) — A young couple was found murdered in their Bucks County home on Tuesday morning, Northampton Township police say. The victims are in their late 20s to early 30s.

Northampton Township Police Chief Michael Clark says a painter working on the home found their bodies around 10:30 a.m on the 100 block of Kitty Knight Drive in Churchville.

"A painter was working in the neighborhood -- working on that house specifically. Went into the house to use the bathroom and found the people inside of the house and called us," said Clark.

Their bodies were found on the second floor of the home. Clark says they believe the couple was married, but have not yet released their identities.

Clark says there was a rifle found inside the home and casings, but cannot say if the gun was used in the double homicide.  There was no forced entry inside the home.

Clark added they are looking for a car that's missing that belongs to a family member. Police are currently looking at cameras.

The couple has been living in the home for about a year.

"They haven't lived here that long, it is just a shame -- it's heartbreaking," one neighbor said.

Police do not believe that the couple was targeted but their home may have been.

"At this point, we have no idea who this was. At this point it's just unfortunately these people were in this house that was targeted by this guy for some reason," Clark said.

While time of death has not yet been determined, police believe that the murders happened sometime in the overnight hours, and though no one is in custody, investigators want the community to feel safe.

"There is no risk to our neighbors right now. We have additional cars in the area; they will be here all night long as well as additional patrols in our area. We feel very comfortable that our residents will be ok," said Clark.

Authorities say autopsies are scheduled for Thursday.
