Police: 85-Year-Old Man Stabbed To Death Inside Home

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — An elderly man was found stabbed to death in West Philadelphia on Tuesday afternoon, police say.

CBS3 has learned that Willie Cooper, 85, was found with multiple stab wounds inside his home on the 5300 block of Addison Street around 2:30 p.m. Cooper was pronounced dead at 3 p.m.

According to CBS3's Greg Argos, Cooper's relative called 911 after finding him unresponsive in the house.

Tuesday evening, many of Cooper's loved ones gathered near his home.

"He took care of everybody in the family. It's just so hard to believe they would do this to him. Whoever did this needs to be caught," said Arnetta Archer, Cooper's cousin.

Archer says Cooper retired from the city's sanitation department. He was known for taking pride in his neighborhood and knowing everyone on the block.

"He would clean the block. He cleaned the block. He would sweep, do the trash. He would help us," said block captain Gloria Savage.

Investigators have not released a motive or many details about the crime. There is damage to the door of the home and it is unknown at this time if there was forced entry.

No arrests have been made.

Police are continuing their investigation.
