PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Investigators have identified the body pulled from the Schuylkill River near Walnut Street on Thursday.
The man’s body was found on the banks of the Schuylkill River on Thursday morning.
Philadelphia police say the body of 58-year-old Philip Reitnour was discovered shortly before 11 a.m. near the Walnut Street Bridge.
The Philadelphia medical examiner identified Reitnour Saturday. Reitnour was also featured on the reality TV show “Shark Tank.”
“I was walking down the bridge here and looked over and saw something floating in the water,” said Chase Doran, who called 911.
And when Doran got closer, he realized he was looking at a body in the Schuylkill River.
“My heart started beating really fast and I got a really weird feeling in my stomach because this is not something I see every day,” he said.
Philadelphia police say authorities recovered Reitnour’s body with a gunshot wound to the forehead.
In an unrelated safety initiative to deter future crime, the city is planning to install 21 security cameras along the Center City portion of the trail, says Councilman Kenyatta Johnson.
“The cameras were also part of a strategic plan to make safety a priority along the trail,” Johnson said.
This has been an ongoing initiative for several years because of reports of assaults on the trail. Most recently, on Tuesday, a woman reported being swarmed by a group of about five teens on bikes and one allegedly groped her.
The cameras are expected to be installed at the beginning of November.
